Howdy ya'll!!

I have to take 6 different prescription pills a day. These are not pills that I will ever be able to stop taking. Is it difficult to swallow medication with the band? None of my pills are huge. And I know of one that I can crush, but the others are extended release so I won't be able to crush them. Any advice welcome!

Thanks,

Laura

I take various pills every morning, including 4 LARGE gell caps - Lovaza .

I was told to get a pill crusher, but the Lovaza canot be crushed so I continued taking them whole, one at a time, slowly.

That was over a year ago and I have never crushed a single pill.

BTW, i have 7.5cc in my band, and I am very tight eating most foods.

Talk to your pharmacist. They often have suggestions for alternative medications and other options for extended release medications. My MD said to never swallow a pill that was bigger than the tip of your pinky finger as it could get stuck.

I don't take any medicines over the size of an allergan pill, so I don't know about large pills. I have been able to swallow without any problems. I can still drink a decent amount of Water in one sitting as well.

I take several small capsules (COQ10, Biotin), Tylenol gelcaps, and even mucinex on occaton which is a pretty big pill. One question is whether you have to take them in the morning when you might be the tightest. Also if you drink coffee first that will help loosen the band.

Thanks everyone.... I was just curious. The way I take pills is to take a small sip of Water and throw the pill in and swallow, and I was wondering if anyone ever had them come back up. I mostly take my pills at night, but I can stagger them out over the day. I appreciate all the advice. :-)

I take numerous (by numerous I mean over 12 a day) mostly at night. I'm 2 1/2 yrs out and have no problem taking them. Including a couple of huge ones. I find tho if I don't wait at least an hour after eating anything, they come back up. So my mantra "don't drink or take pills for at least an hour". Sometimes I forget, take them, throw them up and up comes every single pill. What a waste of pills!

Besides that, I have no problems taking them.

Take all of your pills in with you the next time you see your doctor. He or she will be able to help you with this. Say I'm schedule to go in next week to talk with my dr and was told to bring all medications so the doctor can go over them with me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
