I am NOT the Energizer Bunny!

Recommended Posts

I've been banded for almost 6 months. So far so good, my weight loss has been steady. I log my food daily, on Fitday.com, and that has been helpful in keeping my nutritional needs and calories in check (protein, Fiber, etc).

However, my energy level isn't great at all. I feel the same, energy-wise, as I did 60 pounds ago. Yuk.

My surgeon said, if I like, he can be me B12 shots. He wasn't sure how well they work for his gastric bypass patients. He said "some can't notice the difference and others swear by them." I said I'd give it some thought. I am wondering if B12 Vitamins give the same effect, after a month of use?

Anybody else like me? Losing weight and no energy.

Shawn

I was in the same boat at 6 months. Completely exhausted all the time...I did not understand it. I called my dr. office and the nurse told me that fatigue was a symptom of anemia. They drew some blood... and yep, I needed Iron. It can take several months to build up in your body, but I feel a lot better. Not LOADS of energy, but I am fickle about keeping up with the two Iron pills a day. It may be worth asking for a blood test for them to check your iron levels.

:biggrin1:

I was taking Iron and B12 pills for a few months, and I took them at night with my other pills. After a while, I realized that I was staying awake that way, and I had to start taking them during the day.

I think having a blood test is an excellent idea.

In addition, are you eating enough Protein? I'm a big advocate of Protein as many of you know. When our 'diet' consists of low carb, low fat, and we are eating very low calorie, the body will look to muscle for energy. This could cause tiredness as well. So make sure you're eating well, and have your Iron checked.

Let us know how you're doing ok?

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll get a blood test soon. I log all my food and have been getting about 50-60 grams of Protein per day. I really try to aim for 60. Also, I have to watch my fiber as

I tend to get "stopped up." I had Vitamins with Iron, but switched because of the Constipation problem that I had...

Hey Shawn, don't know if you've ever tried Fiber One Cereal or not, but it's really good and keeps me from having the horrid contsipation problems I did at first. Most fiber cereal tastes like cardboard, but this stuff reminds me of graham crackers. I only eat 1/2 cup per day with skim milk, but it would also be good dry as finger Snacks.< /p>

Shawn, Before having your doctor start giving you Vitamin shots, you should have him check your blood to see which Vitamins you need... you know?

As for cereal, I actually do better eating it dry. I HATE soggy cereal, and if the milk is in it, I feel like my Breakfast is a timebomb; either I'll eat too fast and get stuck, or it'll get soggy and gross. I just measure how much is a serving and put it in a cup and take my time munching on it.

P'Nut I am currently NOT having any problem with costipation (thank you Lord). I do believe I must have given BIRTH a few times on the toilet (holy s....t)!

I eat my fiber (cereal, Benefiber, anything...). Thanks for the suggestions.

Fatigue, weakness are some time common. If your body is not getting enough calorie to sustain it self?

Just starting out in my weight loss,I over exercised! burned way more calories then I was taking in and felt Fatigue!

make sure you look into it! it could be some thing simple.Trying up your calories a bit. good luck!

Shawn! *laughs* I know it's not funny when it's happening, but coming from one who's "given birth" a few times herself I had to laugh.

Mary - I don't have any problems with cereal in the mornings. The Fibre One grinds into a very fine consistancy. But if you're tight in the mornings, try what Keri and Sarah have suggested and add in the dry Fiber One during the day. It's great as a snack or salad topper, etc. Try it and see.

Hello ALL! I went to my family doctor today. Of course, blood work will be involved. I'm going to have my blood drawn tomorrow morning. Of course, I'm being tested for low Iron, and a slew of other things.

I am looking forward to the results....Shawn

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
