Surgery was Monday and just starting to feel normal now. Mainly gas pains and some pain at the port site. Walking as much as much as I can. Getting enough Fluid and Protein is hard. Had 48oz of fluid and only 19gm protien. How much is everyone else getting in thefirst week?

I am up to 60 grams. I drink 2protien shakes a day, which gives me an automatic 50, they are 25 each. It will be harder once moving to food. I can't wait to got off the shakes, they seem so fake to me!

I have to say Peanut Butter was a very slippery slope for me. I said it's a mushie and it's Protein. Only problem is the horrible calories and fat. You can eat 6oz of greek yogurt for 150 cals for 14 g of protein 2 tablespoons of peanut butter is 180 cals and 8 g of protein. Really no competition.

I had to stop buying Peanut Butter because I was eating it straight out of the jar' date=' LOTS of it. I highly recommend buying PB2 http://bellplantation.com/. It is peanut powder which is easily added to Protein Shakes. You can reconstitute it with Water to make paste.

I gave up bread, rice, Pasta as everyday foods. If I am at a party, or dinner I will eat bread. But only high quality bread otherwise it's just not worth the calories. I'm shocked your doctor is recommending breads and muffins.

One hint for "sandwiches" is to take Romaine lettuce spread low fat laughing cow cheese down the spine, squeeze on mustard, put chicken breast on and fold over the leaf. Ta Da Sandwich!

I'm enjoying pb right off the spoon now, but know its because I'm early out from surgery and am actually trying to boost calories becasue I can consume so little. So when I am eating more, the pb goes back to a once I awhile treat!

Thanks for answering my questions. I have tried two different Protein Drinks and can’t do it, but I will try other ones before I give up on that. My surgeon told me to start losing weight but did not put me on a restricted diet before surgery. I have on my own (the last four days) put myself on a liquid diet. I thought it would be easier on my system if I got started early. I have a concern with IBS. I am hoping that this surgery helps me with that as well as losing weight. (My doc says it won’t but I am still hoping)

My doctor was very good and went over a lot of things but I did not know what to ask until I starting reading this forum.

Hope these questions are not too silly

Will the connection for refills stick out?

Do they have to cut you again when they refill?

How soon is a refill?

How long after surgery can you have sex?

I did not know that I would be restricted on driving. How long?

Well this is for a start I am sure I will have many more after tomorrow. Hope you are feeling good and thanks again.

Lassie

I more than highly doubt it.

No you don't get cut again

Fill for more will be 4 weeks from May 11th

Had surgery Friday morning, was uhmm.."ok" on Monday night.

I was off the pain meds by the Monday when I went back to work, but I couldn't really check my blind spots and such due to soreness.

Goodluck!

Great tip!

Yeh I think I'll ditch the Peanut Butter. I'm only having wee half teaspoons at the moment but the more I have' date=' the more I want. And let's face it, that's how I got here in the first place!![/quote']

Sounds yummy!

How far out are you Kiwijo? I would love to add some pb to my shake to kill a bit of the Protein taste but I was afraid it was too much in the mushie phase.. I do like the idea of pb2... Need to check that out!

Ok, confession.....I have had pb off the spoon and I'm in the liquid phases. I have a tablespoon and it takes me an hour to.lick it all. It barely coats my tongue and then I smash it around on the roof of my mouth. It it liquid by then. For me, I'm really concerned about only consuming a few hundred calories a day, so the pb helps to boost that. I've only had it twice though and I'm 10 days post op.

Well your surgery is earlier than mine' date=' but I had an appointment and my doc said 6-8 little meals when going to the mushy stage. Hope yo feel better![/quote']

Oh, that's good to know! I've been having 3 a day, about 3/4 cup max each. I'm allowing myself a yogurt or skim milk as a snack when needed. Trying crystal light today and I really like it! Other than the weight gain, things are going better today.

Great, this is all a learning process isn't it? Kind of exciting though.

So I had my first visit to the doc since surgery. I am 10 days post op and was concerned at the HORRIBLE gas I'm having, so much so that I have sharp stabbing pains in my side and neck especially whe I lay down. So on my visit they are asking me a bunch of questions and come to find out the directions for how to drink were printed wrong in my nutrition book! So I had just progressed too fast to drinking too much at one sitting, which actually contributed to my own gas issues. Wow! So here is my question, how long does it take everyone to drink say a cup of liquid? I have to return to sipping an ounce every 15 minutes which means drinking all day!

Omg, that's awful! On the bright side at least now you know there is nothing wrong with your band, and how to change your drinking to fix the discomfort. It takes me about 10 minutes to have a cup of liquid.

So true, it's a learning process. I'm trying not to compare myself to others and just be patient with myself. I have to remember this is the healing part not the time to be losing. I had lunch 2.5 hours ago and am hungry yet again. ugh lol

Oh ok. I did it for the Fiber. I'm not supposed to be on mushies yet- still on full liquid so that's why I blended it with my shake. I guess I will be ok. No problems yet !

Shy2012

When do you go on mushies? I think I do the first of June.

From reading all of the stuff on here I have realized my dr is much stricter than some. I was told not eat Peanut Butter until a lot later and then maybe not then (didn't ask why). Did ur dr say anything different? I'm also not allowed sticky bread, Pasta, or rice. They did say once I get used to my band then everyone is different and can tolerate different things. Oh well guess time will tell.

I too am having trouble getting my liquids in. Tomorrow will b one week post op for me, but went to dr today n everything was good. Lost 3 more pounds! Total so far 23 pounds

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
