HI,

I am new to this. I am going for my lapband seminar next week. I am very excited. I have been over weight for about 12 years. I have been to Jenny Craig, gyms, I have tired medical weight loss but I always seem to "fall off the wagon".. I am an emotional eater and when I get bored. I love sweets and salty Snacks. I am also horrible with eating out. I have a lot of work ahead of me but I am ready to make the permanent life changes before I get sick and die. I have multiple health problems and have been recently diagnosed with Asthma now. I am sick of taking a hand full of pills every morning. I have no energy to do anything,I always feel bad, I am always in pain and out of breath. I want my self confidence back and to feel pretty again, beside getting rid of the current health problems, I know diabetes is right around the corner. I am too young to be feeling like this. I hope to get some insight from you guys and learn more about lapband. Thanks for listening!

Welcome!

You sound like a lot of us, many failed diet attempts with no lasting result. I know I tried pretty much every commercial and fad diet under the sun before I finally got banded.

I personally love my band and have had good success with it. I think the hardest part for me is learning the difference between head hunger (i.e. emotional eating, boredom, etc) and real hunger. Thankfully, thanks to the band, even if I do have a moment of weakness the damage is minimal due to the small amount I can eat anyway.

It's still work. We still have to make good food choices and make lifestyle change forever. The band is a tool, not a magic bullet. I think that's where I see people mess up most often- they get banded and continue eating crap food, then wonder why they haven't lost weight. You must do the work yourself, you can't expect the band to do it for you.

I do love mine, though. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Best wishes to you and much success :)

I have tried the gyms..a few times.. I get sore from working out.. I mean it makes me feel good but I don't see results fast enough I guess it's the fact of putting forth the effort.. I get sore and discouraged and quit... and then I feel like a failure. If I am having a bad day..I eat out I guess it's a temporary fix but it ends up right on my butt!!! I am sick of taking a hand full of pills every morning for this and that!! I just don't feel well anymore. I am scared to death to find out what's ahead of me if I don't lose weight. I was just recently diangosed with asthma so now I take a pill for that and an inhaler. I am always outta breath. It's not that I sit down and eat and eat it just the CRAP that I eat. I love sweets and salty snacks.. I am a bad snacker and horrible at eating out. I just want to be healthy again!!!

I used to eat out almost every day, sometimes for both lunch and dinner. It was a "treat" and I "deserved" it. I would look forward to it. Now, even just being banded in January, I look forward to my workout or to my small, well prepared (by me) dinner. Of course I have eaten out, my work sometimes requires it, but I choose well and healthily. I don't have much restriction, but I have determination. I will be successful because I'm going to do what it takes to be successful.

I dreaded working out, but starting small, making goals, meeting those goals and pushing myself are worth it. It's not easy to be 280+ lbs and working out, I'll tell you, but its worth it. I am worth it. And I don't want to be fat and unhealthy any more.

So expect a lot from yourself. Set goals and keep track. When you catch yourself complaining and whining-and you will, LOL- tell yourself that you can and will be successful! Good luck!!

U sound exactly like me. I gained my weight at age 12 due to PCOS then I got depressed so I became an emotional eater. I just turned 25 on April 1st and I have asthma plus my knees are bad and I hurt my back at a previous job so that hurts even more with all this excess weight. I'm hoping to get banded within the next few months. My husband and I want more children but with PCOS and obesity its hard to get pregnant without being on fertility drugs. I know 23 people that have gotten lap band and it's worked. My mother in law suffered from extreme asthma that kept her inside all the time and she got banded almost 3 years ago and now she is outside everyday and even goes dancing :) good luck

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
