Cheated during 2 week pre op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I have cheated 2 times during my 2 week pre surgery diet. Did any of you? I know I am weak, but it was during the first week, and only some tuna and lima Beans. Did it present any problems having it laproscopically. I have lost 13 lbs so far. The whole shrink your liver thing baffles me.

A 13 lb. loss is great pre-surgery. My surgeon recommended that I lose at least a few pounds, which could make a world of difference on your liver.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I was on the liver shrinking diet too. tuna was allowable as long as I didn't use any fats on it.

You cheated, but in the grand scheme of things you probably didn't break ketosis. Adkins people can have fats but liver shrinkers can't (or so I am told), because we need to use all the liver fat we can. Adding dietary fat does not encourage liver shrinkage.

The liver is a huge, fatty organ in obese people and higher BMI'ers are more at risk of bleeding and complications if the liver is "in the way".

So even though you broke diet, you didn't go for carbs that would have stopped your progress.

Hope this was helpful, I just went through it and asked SO many questions it drove everyone bonkers.

It will be okay. It's best to try to behave, but if you don't have any liver problems you should be okay.

Are you on Myocel or anything like that?

Best wishes to you for a good surgery.

I cheated and was afraid my surgeon wouldn't do the surgery. When I told him, he was very empathetic and said, "Don't worry Honey, the band is going to help you from now on." Shrinking the liver makes it "easier" for a doc to place the band, but my doc went forward even though I hadn't lost any weight during my pre-op days.

Good luck, and congrads on only slipping twice!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
