Considering Throwing In The Towel And Going Bypass

It's been 16 months post op .. only a 40 pounds weight loss. Nothing lost now since Oct. 2011. Pretty tough to get thru a plateau and keep doing everything right when it dosnt seem to be helping any. I have seen the doctor, and nutritionist more times then I can count, at the gym 3-4 times a week, tried adding Protein Powder again to jump start a loss and managed to gain 3 more pounds. Water intake is ok, meals are small, no snacking, I just don't know what else to try and change and neither the nutritionist or doctor seem to have much advice except "keep trying"

Well, I am about 18 months out and have lost less than you. It sounds like you are doing the right things....how would bypass be better or different? Maybe your calories are too low if you are working out? I don't know what to suggest....hope you figure things out!

Perhaps you need the malabsorption of bypass. Have you spoken to your surgeon about doing a revision? There are people who were unsuccessful with the band that became successful with bypass.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
