"First Bite Syndrome" ???

Recommended Posts

I also have problems, but after the second bite. And I also get the loud embarrassing hiccups. I think that I need to wait longer between the first few bites. For me, it is not a matter of the bites being too big or not chewed well enough, it is because I do not wait long enough between bites. Once the first few bits go down I am fine for the rest of the meal.

Learning to eat as a bandster is quite an experience.

I have been banded three years and i have to say that the hiccups have gotten better with time. My BIL used to laugh everytime i had those loud screeching hiccups. So we would all crack up about it. But now i never have them too much. Either that or i have learned how to control them. I dunno. I do still get 'deep' hiccups, just with out the sound effects. lol

I am so glad i have discovered this board. I have had a little set back with my band (my own stupidity) I had my band loosened and i gained 35 pounds so now i am starting over. But i am having a blast being able to read with other people with the band are experiencing. It keeps me pumped and motivated!!! It is nice to read some things and be like that is EXACTLY what i have!!! No one IRL understands!! lol

thank ya'll

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
