Hi, NEW HERE

Do you go to your primary doctor first or do you go directly to a surgeon to start the process for weight loss surgery??

Confused!

TIA

Hi, I went to one of the seminars at my surgeons office. They gave me my packet and the info on what to do.

Tia, I would think you would go to your primary care doctor first because insurance approval they will want a possible letter of reccomdation for the surgery. Also any other doctors you go to tell them you are considering lapband or the bypass surgery. You will see several doctors prior to your initial surgery, which is all for insurance purposes. I will tell you though it is well worth it!! Good Luck! rolleyes.gifrolleyes.gif

I got a letter of recommendation from my pediatric doctor who I saw from birth to 20. I would have gone to a normal primary care Dr, but did not find a new one until I had scheduled my orientation at the surgeon's office. Check your insurance requirements, some do require a letter from the PC before you go to a surgeon.

The program I am in was you go to either PCP or seminar first. But I had to do both before I could even get anywhere near my surgeon. Then comes the satisfying your insurance...psych doc, health tests, blood tests. It took 10 months from 1st consult to surgery. It seemed like it took forever but it really was the best thing and it made me understand the big commitment I was making.

My free advice is make sure your medical professionals treat you like a partner. If you ever feel like you are not getting the support you need or seem like another number, look somewhere else. It IS all about you!

I just dumped my surgeon's nutritionist for a FABULOUS one that also works in the same group. It has made all the difference for me. And insurance is OK with that!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
