Hello February Banders. I wanted to begin a place where we could offer suggestions to each other on how to get through this early period while we are healing and waiting for that first "fill".

My story:(briefly) Although I'd thought about a lap band for several years, it wasn't until I failed my last diet that I began feeling dieting was hopeless and that I was doomed to inhabit an obese body for the remainder of my life. When my thoughts turned to depression and my life began to seem hopeless....I made a decision to fight. From the moment I had the energy to try again I knew what I had to do. From the decision to banding for me.. .took a mere 2 weeks. I decided the fastest and easiest way for me (I live in southern california) was to head for mexico where the preop screenings were reasonable and expeditious. I made a phone call and started a preop diet the same day. 2 weeks later I was banded in Mexico and home the next day.

My doctors insist on a full liquid diet for 21 days post op. Banding at 6 weeks. I am heading back to mexico on march 22 for a first fill.

I am down 17 pounds and have 43 to go . I don't know how I would have gotten even this far without the support of other people who have gone before me and others who are marching behind. Its the connection I feel between myself and those others who share this part of my world.. that has made such an enormous difference.

I was banded on Feb 15 and from the date of the seminar until the day before surgey I lost about 27 pounds. I go to my follow up post-op appt tomorrow and have lost about 10 more since surgery. I am happy with that...but honestly I don't care about weight loss right now...I am more worried about getting enough Protein in!

I had a great surgery...and recovery physically. However, I had trouble even getting Water down until about day 4 post-op. I am feeling pretty good now though...sticking to my full liquids until tomorrow when I believe the doctor will let me go to mushies! Can't believe I am so excited about mushies?! smile.png

So far, so good!

Hi, I was banded Feb 20th. My surgery went well, they repaired a pretty decent size hernia before putting the band on. So I have some extra soreness where the band is. I also had a lot of swelling so it is a struggle for me to get in my liquids and get enough Protein. It is slow going but otherwise all pain is gone :) At least because of that I don't have any desire to eat yet, I am sure it will come. I even took a 20 minute walk today. The biggest hurdle by far has been mental!! I was totally unaware of the fact that I would freak out. I don't know why but about day 4 I started to have panic attacks and crying. Asking myself why did I do this and why would I do this when I have two small kids at home! For the last 3 days I cry at least once a day. I am not sure what is causing me to have sweats and skin burning but at first I thought I was rejecting the band. I am not sure how to bring this up to my doctor at my follow up appt. But all I do is hug my kids and keep convincing myself that I did this for them and how I am going to make a success of this. Just praying this goes away soon!

I was banded on the 28th. I researched the band for a good 4 years and tried once to get it before finally committing. My insurance required A LOT of me to get this done and at first I just wasn't willing to jump through the hoops. Finally I decided to just do it. The day I got home I was in so much pain i couldn't believe I willingly did this to myself. Today- 5 days out, I've lost 11 pounds and couldn't be happier that I did it!!

Hi Everyone

I was banded feb 8th and so happy about my decision to do it !

I have lost 25 lbs the first 3 weeks and now at a total standstill , I started solids ( flounder, salmon, tunafish) and it feels so good !

Today I had a chicken cutlet ( maybe 1/3) a few bites of mashed potatoes and I had no problems at all. Is anyone have problems with getting all the Protein in?

thanks for any help

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
