Going On Vacation, Should I Get A Slight Un-Fill?

Recommended Posts

If you are too tight for a normal day you should go get a slight unfill about like a 1/4 cc which should make a lot of difference. But to just get an unfill so you can eat more food for the fun of it still say no. But maybe a slight unfill will help but when you come you can keep it that way and eat better

I had a fill months ago ½cc and in two weeks it was too much but I went in and told the Dr I would only let him take about a small amount so he promised. He took .03 out and I was still ahead by .02 and it was perfect months later.

I say never let them take it all out unless you have medical reason for it. I have hear too many peopl say the never feel the same again.

Amazing how 1/2 a cc made that big of a difference for you! I'll ask about removing .03, thanks!

The difference like night and day. I was glad I did not have to go back to were I was. It seemed to make me hit the green zone. That is the 2nd time in 2 ½ years I only had .2 taken out after a fill and it really makes a difference, Being too tight is no fun at all. I but I do make it clear to the Dr that i only want that much taken out before he touches me.

I too have had 0.2 taken out before and it made a huge difference.

I have flown a number of times - long haul flights and have never had a problem.

What I was told by my Dr was that an unfilled band can cause problems in the air as the air in it can expand but that if it has saline in the saline does not expand. Obviously you want to be careful what you eat while you are flying as it would be the worst place in the world to be stuck and sliming. If you are concerned order a special soft meal or Soup before you fly.And if the worst comes to the worst and your band does feel tighter in the air then as soon as you land it should go back to normal.

If you do get an unfill make sure it is because you really are too tight and not just because you want to eat more on holiday. As the others have said , if you do that then you are getting into really dangerous territory.

From what you are saying it sounds like you need a tiny unfill. My doctor says if I can't eat 3 oz of solid Protein at lunch and dinner and have veggies and perhaps fruit at both I am too tight.

Disheartening I know but this is lifelong journey. Better to get a slight unfill on your terms than a full unfill while on vacation.

Elcee - thanks for that info. I'm expecting to get tighter in the air, then loosen up when I land. I plan to be careful about eating in the air because you're right, wouldn't want to get stuck there! Although, I could always claim air sickness! lol wacko.png

Thanks for the advice everyone, I knew I can count on this board!! I just had a vision of getting stuck and being sick on the airplanes miniature restroom! That would be the worst place ever! It's only a 2 hour flight so I plan and having maybe some coffee before we depart and that is it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
