Plateau? Don't Despair!

Recommended Posts

I was starting to get very frustrated because I was on a plateau for about two months where my weight and size really didn't change much. I almost started to fall back into my old mindset of "Screw it, I'm not losing weight so I might as well eat whatever I want.". I knew I had to do things differently, so I joined a gym, increased my Protein and Water, and kept careful track of my calories. Even then the scale was going down very slowly. I was getting even more frustrated, but I stuck with it anyway.

Today, I hit a number on the scale that I haven't seen in years...180 lbs! I also tried on a pair of size 12 jeans that I got for Christmas that didn't fit...those zipped up! My wedding dress, which I bought a size too small on purpose two months ago and I was starting to panic because it didn't zip up... now it fits!

So what's the point of sharing all this, besides being super excited? Plateaus aren't forever. Don't get frustrated and give up...you WILL reach your goals if you stick with it!

Wish it were that easy for me. I've been at the gym since 2 weeks post op, drink s minimum of 1 gallon of Water per day. And I've only lost 12 lb since September. I'm thinking of getting a metabolic test done to see what I should really eat. I'm about to go off for a week. No gym, no tracking. I went to Florida last month and didn't track (know I ate more than I should have) and only worked out once, my days were spent sitting in lectures. And I had lost a lb when I came back. I'm just so afraid to do that again though.

Hi, thanks for your note and congratulations! I have been plateauing for far too long and am feeling so frustrated. I was writing down everything with my fitness pal and counting calories and then realized I was getting in to the freaky diet mentality again. So now i am just writing down what I eat and not counting calories. I am finding I am eating less as I am more mindful about what i am eating and thinking I can have X amount of calories at each meal etc. I am exercising regularly and just want to see the scale move significantly! argh! I need to find some patience.

You are spot on in your post! I had a plateau that lasted 5 months and durning that time I only lost 2 oz. But I knew that going back to my old ways would not make me loose weight so I kept doing what was right I went to the gym 6 days a week and I tracked all my food and BAM I lost 30 pounds in 3 months which put me bellow my goal weight I started at 328 pounds and I now weigh 129. I am glad I went through that plateau because its where I learned that this is what I have to do for the rest of my life it's a lifestyle change.

Please don't get discouraged during plateaus use them as a time to get your head right!

Thank you I needed to hear that. I had an unfill mid January & have been bouncing up & down 3 lbs ever since. The reason i got unfilled was so I could consume enough calories to work out, I was eating 600/day prior to that. So I've been busting my butt at the gym eating healthy & not seeing results. So i decided to say screw it & get a fill... well i can't get in until March 6th :( So i have a few more weeks to keep working at it.

Vanilla Sky

you hit it right on the head! it's not the daily, weekly, monthly loss. I need to look at this as the rest of my life. seems when I quit trying to control so much things work out best!

I don't know how you made it for 5 mths but I'm glad you did!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
