My date is March 22, I had to move it from the February 23rd since I needed to come up with my insurance deductable. I am so excited and nervous. I am a little worried I do not have all the information I need regarding the pre-Op Diet sad.png

you didnt get to see a dietician at all??

I'm a self pay too. My insurance won't pay for any part of any weight loss treatment. If I live to be 200 years old I will never understand that. They had no problem paying for my 4surgery knee surgeries including both a full and partial replacements and 5 hyalagan shots at $3520.00 APIECE!!!! Do the math.....those shots were more than Lapband surgery. Simply unbelievable, huh?

thats just crazy... where do they get their reasoning from?? so you have had knee surgeries? ive had two as well.... i wonder which will be worse?/ knee replacements or lapband?

March 7th for me! I've been through SO much to get approved and I'm still in shock that I'm getting it! I just found out yesterday and I called my best friend screaming. She is also getting lap band in a few months.Only a few days until my pre op diet begins. My mom is 6 months post op and is 60 lbs down! Wow hope I can do the same.

wow your mum has done a fantastic job ..... thats very impressive. how much does she want to lose.?

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. Im sure it will be quite an adjustment but I know I can do it. My big fear is AFTER SURGERY. I grow more and more worried about vomiting and band slippage. I guess as long as I follow my directions I will be okay. Just a big worry for me right now.

I do have a question for anyone who has added pudding mix to their Protein shakes.......how much mix do you add? The entire package or just until it tastes good to you?

can i ask?? what sort of pudding mix do you use to add to the Protein Shakes?

I asked the SF pudding question and was told to just add a scoop of Protein Powder to the mix and follow normal directions. I so want to try it this way but my Dr said no milk! Not usless "you want to be a momma cow" (his words :( )

Not sure how my job will like me taking off the two days before a break. It is a no-no to take off the day (let alone two days) before a break. My surgery is 3 hours away from me b/c no one locally would even consider the lap band for me (my BMi is 51 and they don't do them over 50)..

I cheated already sad.png I had a very small grilled chicken breast today at lunch. Its so hard cooking for the kids and seeing/smelling all of it and knowing that you can't touch it.

im sure that wont hurt you... dont beat yourself up over it. i reckon a lot do slip up at least once.

Thanks! I just don't know how my Dr will be about it. They seem so serious about nothing but water/protein shakes for two weeks. I need the 8th to get here soon (my pre-op and Dr visit).. Surgery the 9th! 1 wk left yay

hello Kim ' date=' its just so good to see another aussie on here. although i must say its been a brilliant forum for me so far. i guess when it comes down to issues like we have, countries are all the same.... and so are the people. its good to meet you.

o.k..so you are near Brisbane?? i love that city. ive been through it a couple of times, we have a family member who lives in Eleanora which is near Coolangatta airport. Ray and i often go to Coolangatta for holidays.

So you are in hospital in the morning? is that right? im assuming that you are on computer now.. we are on practically the same time zone. we have an hour ahead of you though, but its not much.

Has it been hard for you leading up to your surgery then?? boy oh boy... some drs from what ive read here have put their patients on strict diets. i dont know how i would manage that without a band. who is your dr?? my dr will be Dr Wilkinson.

WAs it hard for you to get the referral?/ im about 4 stone overweight... my height is 5ft 5in. If it wasnt for my arthritis ,which is crippling me in my feet, hips and knees after many surgeries, i dont think the referring dr would have given me a referral, she didnt say anything but im thinking my BMI is only 30.... its the chronic condition of my joints that got me through. im hoping that it wont take all that long for me to lose the weight... but then i dont know really.

I see dr wilkinson next wed... the 7th. i held out with the appointment because we had a family visitor staying and it was too difficult for me to get to the dr. WE live right down south in TAsmania.

..nearly the furthest point you can find on the map. lol. its; a beautiful place, we live on the Water, looking out to the sea towards the east. Its a small town with not many amenities and we have to travel on a not so good road to Hobart to see the specialist etc etc. so, its a biggie for us. we dont like being on the road much.

anyway, im so glad i found this forum. ive made so many notes... ive got plenty of questions for the dr when i see him next week. l i hate going and not being prepared., How long did you have to wait until they got you into surgery??

wilky has his own lapband clinic. i dont know what sort of waiting list he has... i hope its not long.

Which specialist do you have?? are you going to a clinic or into a hospital?/ what time are you booked in for?? If you like i can email you privately. if you want to email me privately my email addy is with my details... you can see it there.l

its so good to see you on here..... keep posting. im waiting with bated breath to see how you get on.

Did i see you say that you had to have vegemite in hot water?? i love that. did it help you?? it sounds like you went through some tough days leading up to surgery. i certainly will talk to a dietician. thats for sure. Did you get a chance to do that??

i dont know the protocol yet. i will let you know. o.k. ... now ive written a book id better get off here...

'bye for now Kim... all the best for tomorrow.. .which is friday. are you in only for the day?? let us know.... sending you big hugs now. judy[/quote']

Hey Judy. Was on lunch when I wrote at work. Yes it's been tuff but getting easier 1 whole week on the pre op diet now. My surge on the 8/3 so another week yet. And yes was drinking vegemite in hot water was so hungry lol. Sounds absolutely Devine where u live. I imagine it's just gorgeous. I've been in this process since nov last yr. As I'm getting wary release of funds from my super it's been a long drawn out process let me tell u. Still doin last minute sorting a wk before surg. I had high bmi so I suppose was not so hard in thar way just getting the money was hard lol. I hope all goes well with ur visit to ur surgeon. Sounds great if he has his own clinic. Dr dr is reza Adib. Lovely man. Well u take care. Kim

Well, its getting closer. Mine is a week from today at 9 am. I have finished all of my pre-op appointments and so far so good on the pre-op diet. Its been difficult to only have Protein Shakes everyday and no food but I only have a week left. Starting to get nervous though.

I'm done and recovering. Took a walk. BTW I also had to get a hiatal hernia fixed and an umbilical hernia. Who knew. 3 procedures. I'll be sore. Ugh

My surgery date is also March 13th. I had to pay for the whole surgery so I'm wondering if this is why I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. Any body have a comment on this.

Some surgeons do not require pre-op diets. Unlike most who seem to have to do a liquid diet, I am only required to do a low-fat diet. I have been using Protein Shakes and will go completely liquid the week prior to surgery to get some more of that weight off :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
