Hair Loss ):

Recommended Posts

Ok so i went to see my surgeon today to get a schedule for my EGD (which is next thurs XD) and talk about alot of things. Just to put it out there i will get a date he said around the middle or end of march OR early april. Lol sorry had to share that XD But back on topic. I got like 3 papers today. One shows all the complications that can happen during surgery, and after.. Theres death of course. And of course in the back of my mind im paranoid about that.. But really i dont like the Hair loss one.. What are my chances of actually losing my hair or it thinning?? And what causes it? Is there any way to prevent it? Im soo worried because i damaged my hair alot in the past and at 18 its FINALLY growing back XD Its grown back alot its past my shoulders touching my back. I dont wanna sound stupid but i have tried so hard to get my hair back to where it is now so im like ehhhh.... Regardless i will not let that stop me from getting my surgery. But have you had hair loss or thinning? Jw. Or maybe you haven't? Hmm. Sorry for sounding weird just ehh:/

have had this problem with Hair loss. i always had thick hair and now it is much thinner. When I Shampoo my hair i find some in my hands as i shower. A bit scary but i began taking Biotin and it seems to be helping. not losing as much now. i think it from not eating enough protein.....although i try i guess i don't get enough in daily. Still would recommend the band. lost 45 lbs since the end of july. could have never done it without the lapband.

I also had Hair loss and thinning. It usually happens 4-6 months post op. I started taking Biotin 5000mcg capsules from Target once a day. It seems to be helping. I try to get in my Protein in daily as well by eating fish, greek yogurt with protein packed granola.

My dr said hair loss in any situation is poor nutrition you are getting enough vits. And Protein. My dr expects me to have Protein around 70-80 a day and take mult vits every day. We are losing wt with decreased cals so also decrease vits. There is no reason to loose hair unless you aren't keeping nutrition levels up I use my fitness pal to follow not only cals I eat a day but my nutrition. So I can keep it balanced

Also simply going through surgery can mess with your body. Trauma from surgery can cause Hair loss. FYI, it may also mess up your period for a few weeks too. Everyone else is right. The hair loss is from rapid weight loss and lack of Protein. I lost a lot, but had a ton to start with, so only I noticed. My Dr said I needed at least 80gms of protein a day and to take Biotin supplement. The biotin will make your nails long and strong too. If I can't get 80gms of solid, food protein, then I supplement with a Protein Shake once a day.

To be honest, I didn't really notice much Hair loss, and I have fine hair. As mentioned, get your Protein in for sure; it's important for hair & nails as well as your health.

I have thick hair & have noticed I am losing less hair than before. My dr said 70-80 g of Protein but I had a trainer who said 100. I have been very good taking my Vitamins and for the most part eating healthy. I was banded 9/7/11 & have lost 58lbs.

Good luck!

I have LOST SO much hair! it kinda looks like i had cancer. My hair started out thin... and is not thinner. But because i've lost SO much weight it went fast. By the handfuls. It grows back... so right now my hair is thick at top and thinner at the bottom but it's long and oober thin. I cried about it when it first starting happening and then when i upped my Protein and it still didn't stop it was hard. But it's a cycle. You start losing hair about 3 months, peak at 6 and start losing the normal amount at 9 months after you begin losing faster. The reason I say faster is because it's really not by your surgery date. It's more from when you get that fill that just hits the spot and you have the rapid weight loss. But I wouldn't change my decision to get the band. I'm thin now, and my hair is growing. But eat your protein, and just hope it doesn't happen to rapid.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
