Struggling With The New Eating Habits.....

Recommended Posts

HI everyone,

I am new to this site and am finding it wonderful - i am from australia and not sure if there are any other australians on here. Just wondering how everyone else is going with learning to eat smaller meals - i know my eating problem is that I enjoy big meals...i guess its just a matter of learning new habits over time.....just thought i would touch base with everyone else on this....

I am still on liquids, that is yogurt, Soup and Protein shakes. So far I am doing really well at eating a little at a time. But I suspect that my resolve may be aided by the fact that none of the three are particular triggers for me or hold my interest at all really.

Once I start eating more of the foods that I really enjoy, then this will start to get trickier.

But so far, so good.

Before the band I had a hard time limiting my portion sizes. I don't know what changed because it was a long time before I felt any restriction, but from the very beginning I measured everything out and put it on my small salad plate and accepted that was all I was going to have.

Mind over matter mostly. This does take a lot of mental effort too. It is definitely a learning process. Take it slow and listen to yourself and your body!

once I went to the seminar I started eating less, logging everything I ate, drinking Water like crazy. I was determined to not fail.

I measure and weigh everything. I never guess. I have started to plan my foods for the first time ever. I think about Protein 1st, haven't had any ground beef since August. I have been experimenting with spices and eat a more varied supply of meats. So far I am having fun looking for new recipes.

yesterday was a very stressful day and I ate a oatmeal raisin cookie and a too many carbs. The first thought that came to my mind was that I had failed. I felt like I should just eat whatever else I wanted. Luckily I snapped out of it after I logged all the stuff I ate. Yes, I did not like what I saw in the food log but it was one day, one error. Today was a good day, I feel back on track.

I hope that I can keep thinking this way forever. I want to be healthy for the rest of my life.

Its hard. I have lost the weight and kept it off for almost five years and for the past ix months ive been pushing down more food than my band really allows for, i just stopped listening to my body. Id had a complete unfill for nine months whilst i underwent cancer treatment.

Now i have developed a pouch dilation, so minor my surgeon doesnt even want to fo anything about it but it scared me! I started listening again anf have effortlessly halved my intake. The hard part is cutting out the bikkies and nuts between meals, big coffees etc. I have gained but got so thin during treatment that its. Good thing Healthwise - my bmi is still only 21 but i know the gain has been due to overeating.

Its just something you have to remain aware of, the health og your band depends on it. You need to listen hard to your body and stop before youre really full.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
