85 % Burnt - Stupid Stupid Me

Recommended Posts

Well last tuesday I went tanning. I had gone numerous x's over my lifetime & practically have never ever burnt. But it had been about 3 to 4 yrs as I told the 17 yr old behind the desk & I wasn't sure what was new on the market & how long I should go for. She said & highly recommended the "Non Burning Monster Bed" w/bronzing bulbs instead of the high pressure bed I was used to. Said it cost a bit more but no burning/average person goes for 30 mins she said w/a smile. I said well that sounds like alot. She said its OK the computer will only let me schedual you for 25 mins for a first timer. I said ok- your sure? She said yah. I actually got out after 21 mins aprox- I was very sweaty & felt too hot.

Basically that evening about 3 hours later I blacked out & fell in my bathroom floor around 1am & woke up at 1:35am. totally naked & on the ceramic floor. Crashed into a drawer w/my butt & actually cut my lower thigh. Cracked my head a bit & pulled down a towel rack in the process. Holly hell! Got 2 tylenol down my throat & crawled back into bed & tried my sister- no answer. Than all I remember is waking up the next day- THANK YOU JESUS! Long & short of it it is nearly 6 days later & I can walk now & I was able to go to church this morning.

The Tanning salon agreed to pay for all my medical expeneses & creams/pain killers plus fix the damage to the bathroom & give me free tanning packages. Well not like I ever want to go tanning again:0) But I told them I did want everthing else covered & since I am not working I wouldn't sue them for time lost on the job.

Bad news I also had gained 6 pounds this week - good news was all but 2 are gone- it was swollen Water weight. Hopefully I can start working out again soon. What a week!:0(

Um.. you have a good case to sue that place! OMG you could have died. That is gross negligence on their part and I wouldn't hesitate to sue them. That's just inexcusable!

And the title of this thread, Stupid Stupid Me - you should change that. You werent the one who was stupid!

oh my gosh yu poor thing..you are burnt bad. Did you go to a doctor at all? That is after only ONE tan? Make sure you get lots of fluids in because a burn like that will rally deydrate you. What did you get to use on the burn?

Ok, now that I've calmed down from my initial reaction.. *chuckle*

I am currently going thru something similar, and am under the care of a burn care specialist. Be careful about what you put on the burned areas. Some creams and ointments actually dry out the skin and will make it more painful.

I strongly suggest you get to a doctor. Hell, go the the ER. You're not paying for it. The passing out was most likely from dehydration over such a large area of your body. If you see any blisters forming, go see a burn care or wound care specialist. Burns with open blisters (indicating a second degree burn) are so easily infected, and I was told by medical professionals to put the wrong stuff on mine which made it more painful and took longer to heal.

You were smart to take the pictures, keep doing that as things progress. And by all means, contact an attorney. You may not find one right away - so many aren't even interested in cases that don't promise a million bucks in their pockets - but you'll find one that will eventually. And it will be worth your time. I'm so mad at the magnitude of the negligence that goes on. They know you have a good case, that's why they were so quick to offer what they have. It's a drop in the bucket to what they know you could get for such a screwup. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I am in disbelief. That is definitely a "monster" bed. See a doctor and then see a lawyer before you accept anything they offer. That is pure negligence on their part and you deserve compensation. I am not a lawsuit freak, but the fact that you actually passed out and hurt yourself makes this a much more serious issue than just a burn.

HOpe you feel better. Be careful about the creams. I was burned once( not by a tanning bed lol ) but in a house fire second and third degree on my back. I found that wearing light cotton shirts(white ones) helped with the pain because clothes hurt burns. Try to wera light cotton fabrics while you are recooperating. Drink Water too. God Bless!

Please do the following....

Call your doctor....ASAP

Drink tons of Water

Call your attorney

Accept nothing from the tanning salon...have an attorney deal with it.

Take care and I hope you are not in too much pain.....

Thanks everyone for the advice & well wishes.

YES - I went to see a doctor last Thursday. I had actually called my GYN(she is easy to get ahold of) the day after & she prescriped the silvadene. Than I went to my PHD the next day,Thursday, after I had the courage to bend my legs to drive the car. Ouch! They gave me a script for Tramadol (pain killer) which didn't make me sick- horray, the vicodin was upsetting my stomach. Also they prescriped Hydrocortisone 2% cream which really really helped calm everything down. Most of my time was spent in ice baths-(talk about painful) Lapband surgery hurt way less!

As to the girl getting fired, They asked me if I wanted her fired & said they would if I asked b/c she never even had me sign a release form. She is only 17 yrs old, I said no. What I want is for her to understand her actions & learn from them.

AS to what they offered: They didn't offer anything- I was the one who called & asked for my expenses to be covered & for the damage in the bathroom to be taken care of. I may be asking for some small amount of compensation but really do not wish to sue them.

They are a family owned business & even though I 100% feel they are completely at fault, I just would rather turn the other cheek & thank God I am not in any danger at this point. The owner was very very sorry & when I finally do show her the photos I think will understand more fully the extent of the damages. But in all honesty I should have know better than listening to a young girl when I have had experiences with tanning salons over the years.

Today all the stupid itching has begone & living in Michigan w/all the dry & cold air doesn't help. So I am one lathering babe! Greased up & hoping not to become a snake.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

If anyone can downsize those photos & have them just show up instead of a link please feel free to do so. I have no idea how too.

One more thing- the whole reason I went tanning was too look better for this cute young Thang I been dating. He felt so bad that he took care of me all week. Plus I think he liked seeing me in the icebaths ;0) What won't we do for lust??? LOL LOL

Oh boy I find it really hard to believe in this day and age anyone would design a tanning bed to allow you to stay in longer! Its all about shorter shorter shorter. Last year I went to the solarium to get a tan for a special event - I could easily get addicted to tanning beds, but generally stay away because I would prefer not to look 70 at 40. And 2/3 of Australians get skin cancer in one form or another in their lifetime anyway without making it even more likely by going in tanning beds.

BUT - I got a glorious deep tan in about 12 sessions of 6 minutes each! That girl has gotten something wrong somewhere, surely. With the strength of today's beds there's no way you'd need 20 minutes - or even if that bed does require it, you have to build up to it.

Yes your right on that one- You are supposed to work up to that long of a time for sure. That is why I was so totally atken back when she told me the average person goes for 30 mins. But the computer would only let me go for 25 the first time. I even asked "that seems so long..are you sure I will be ok?" I wish I would have listened to my insticts. I usually do. Did I mention she mis quoted the rate 3x's.!

Photonut-

thanks for redoing those shots. The full body ones are the most painful to look at. My poor breasts will never be the same-lol lol Thank GOD I wore undies!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
