How To Become Successful With Lapband

Recommended Posts

I am supposed to be banded in March and I have taken my nutrition classes of course. For those who have already been banded I want to know what steps did you take to make sure the weight stays off. Also I wanted to know how much weight did you lose in your first month after being banded.

I lost 16lbs in the first month after banding but everyone is different, we all lose at different rates so would be hard to make a definitive sort of response. A lot of people dont lose weight at all till they start feeling restriction from fills. My first month was all liquid diet, followed by 1 month mushies then solids after that. I ate a lot of Soups, broth and 0% fat greek yoghurt mixed with skimmed milk made into a drink, i did not do Protein Shakes :)

I am still losing a year post op but have slowed down considerably. Average was 2 to 3lbs a week now its maybe 1 or 2 lbs a week at most .. not far to go now but will continue just eating healthy food and exercising to maintain what i have lost. Some people manage to lose just from eating smaller portions of normal type food u will have to learn what works for you ..

good luck :)

Smaller portions of normal food, lots of running and a lot of headwork centred around lettng go of food rules and the idea of guilt around good and bad foods ( the hardest part for me). Plain, simpke, logical.

I dont know how much Protein i eat, no idea how many grams of carbs or even really calories in a day. When i exercise i go all out.

Banded 1 month, lost 19 lbs. Did WW for my documented weight loss and just stayed on program until surgery. Between WW and banding I am down 60#. Cazzy is spot on and more experienced but I think she is right, depends on exercise, Portion Control and what you eat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
