Just Introducing Myself.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kita, I'm from Chicago and God willing, will be getting banded in March. As with many others, I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I was always the kind of person who would say "I didn't need surgery to gain the weight, so I don't need it to lose it". After years of struggling, and my best friend having WLS, I've realized that thee is nothing wrong with getting the help WLS can provide.

I will be having my surgery done at Day One Health in Chicago, with Dr. Myers. Has anyone else used them? I just found out that BCBSIL has changed their policy about WLS and will not require a 6 month diet. Waiting on my psych eval then my Dr's office will submit my papers. Would love to connect with others in my area. I'm super nervous about the procedure. Looking forward to lots of support here on the message boards, in addition to my support system at home.

I just want to know the ugly...my biggest fear is that I'll reject the band or have the bad side effects. Also, how long were you off work after your surgery?

Thanks!

Hi Cathy! Thanks for the response. How is it going so far, you are almost a month in. If you work, were you able to go back to work within a week?

Sounds like we are all in the same boat, somewhat. I don't have grandkids but I do have an eight year old and a twelve year old who are very active. I hated that I could not be as active with them. I feel like I have not been living my life the past ten years due to the weight gain. I am definitely looking forward to being able to enjoy myself again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
