First Post Op Doctor Visit Tomorrow.... Should I Get A Fill

Recommended Posts

KINDA OF A STUPID QUESTION - I'm seeing my surgeon for the first time on Friday and how does he know if I need a fill. I have lost 58 lbs since my 10 day pre surgery diet that started on 12/19/11.

I definitely have restriction by the very small portions that I eat. I'm not hungry between meals. I've had a few close calls on "getting stuck" but it hasn't been a problem as long as I slow down and chew properly.

Any advice or experiences will be greatly appreciated. Thx

I would think that since you are steadly losing weight and are not hungry after you eat your portions that you will not need a fill at this point. I myself was stuck at the same weight for 2 months and got a fill and the scale started moving again.,,You are doing great!!!

Not a stupid question at all! reason we are all here is to exchange experiences, as you will also.

Every time I go, they compare my weight that day to my weight at last visit, divide by # of weeks and determine average loss /week.

Anything more than a pound/week is acceptable, in my case, but it is all based upon how much you have to loose.

He'll ask a few standard questions, then he will determine if I need a fill or not.

If my weight loss has been marginal, then it's open for discussion.

I'm close to my goal and I'm trying to squeeze 1 lb/week! Will definitely have a discussion next visit in Feb.

your fist post op visit does not usually result in a fill but I see that you say it has been 4 weeks, my post op visit was 1 week, then 4 weeks with first fill at 5 weeks post op. i had alot of restriction the first 5 weeks after surgery just from being swollen but that gradually went away and I was eating like a champ lol i am now on my third fill as of last week and I have noticed that if I am losing 1-2 lbs a week he will not adjust me, this last time I went 2 months and only lost 2 lbs and he gave me a very good adjustment. so it is probably up to your weight loss and most of all your surgeon. good luck and congrats on 58 lbs in only a month, wow, im jealous lol

Went to the Doctor today, no fill. He wants to wait another 3 weeks and see how my weight loss is progressing. Time will tell, I guess.

58 Lbs in about 4 weeks - 14.5 lbs per week?????

That's DAM GOOD BRO!!!!!! There are people here that wish to see that in 6 months, let alone 4 weeks.

You're a poster child in the making.

I would think about charging them for future speaking fees!

I wouldn't give you a fill either! Your lap band journey will be over in 10 more weeks and then the Dr. can't make any money off ya. Gotta stretch it out a little, you know?

My son had his surgery in August. Sugreon gave him an intial fill at surgery, and 1 more. He has lost about 70 lbs. I would be happy loosing without a fill! There is anothr gentleman on here who has never had a fill. Not sure if it is B-52, but anyway, this perosn has lost most of his weight without a fill at all. Goodluck, maybe you will be one of the folks who doesn't need a fill to gain restriction! Karen

Thank you guys, but I'm sure the weight loss is going to slow down a bit. I get to start going to the gym again, so maybe that will help.

We didn't gain it all in weeks either!

As long as you are on a steady loosing trend, then you are successful

Many surgeons don't do a fill until about 6 weeks post-op. You are doing fantastic. It sounds as though you might have some restriction already. Some surgeons put some fill in at surgery. You could be on of those patients.

Keep up the good work!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
