January Surgery Bandsters Group

Recommended Posts

I won't go into details, but I just want to scream today- a bad night with kids up, a freezer that unfroze everything (mostly meat, too) and just a cranky DH- and now I'm losing my hair! I thought I'd missed that, but it started a couple days ago. I've been taking a multi-vit with Biotin, but started more yesterday. I know it's probably an after effect of the surgery, and I know I'm getting in all my Protein, but still! Luckily my hair is really thick, and as long as this is just temporary I should be fine, but dang it! Just one more thing........

Hi everyone!

I had surgery on Jan. 10th. I have had 2 fills and have 5.25cc in my 10cc band. I feel like I could handle some more fill, so we'll see. I go back next Wednesday for a checkup. I am having about 1 "stuck" per week, but mostly due to eating too fast.

I have noticed though that Breakfast is just really hard for me. I need to drink at least two cups of coffee and wait until like 9:30 a.m. to eat. Otherwise, I get stuck. Anyone else having issues with breakfast?

Thanks!

Hannah

Hello Everyone!

It seems that I can't get on here like I did pre-surgery. I had my surgery Jan 9th and first fill on Feb. 17th. I only received 3cc in 10cc band. My next fill is March 16th (tentatively, but I am going to see if I can move this up). But to your point Hannah, I am no longer able to do breakfast either until mid morning. Also, I have issues at night as well. My doctor told me that I am waiting too long between meals to eat. So, I am trying to work on that, but I am not hungry and literally have to remember to eat. However, I think that will change in the next week or so. My hunger didnt start until right before my first fill last month. I am assuming that will be the case this time as well. I will weigh myself in the morning, kind of excited. I travel for my job Monday through Thursday and look forward to the Friday weigh ins. My doctor told me to stay off the scale and go by how my clothing fits versus what the scale reads. I do that, but I kinda like seeing what the scale reads. I hope I wont be disappointed.

Everyone keep your head up! Our change is definitely in progress :-) The hard part was getting approved for the surgery....(at least in my opinion). Now is the part where we can show that we can beat the challenge of eating healthier and exercising.

Take care everyone!

Kemisha :-)

Thanks Misha, glad to see I'm not the only one with that trouble.

Also, the scale keeps bobbing up and down for me, but I know I'm losing. I'm wearing clothes that haven't fit in years (took a progress pic of me in size 20 jeans that I haven't worn in 2 1/2 years...was in a size 24 to start). So, I am trying to just stay away from the scale and go by my body size. I just wish the scale would get it together! :)

Hi, This site can be so encouraging! I have really been struggling lately. I got my band Jan 4th and have had one fill so far. I just have been making terrible food choices. It's like pre band but I am getting back on track and reading everyone's thoughts and struggles really help. Thanks!

Are you feeling any restriction at all? If not, maybe you can try to move your appointment up. That seems like a long time in between fills (although I know every doctor is different).

After my first fill, I had no restriction and was hungry all the time and it was very tempting to eat poorly because it had been so long since I had real food. It's great your back here and trying to get back on track.

I highly recommend journaling every bite that goes into your mouth. I love the Lose It App--easy to use and it gives you good feedback.

Hang in there!

I've heard good things about Lose It- I use my fitness pal, it's got a great calorie finder, place to log exercise and every bite that goes into my mouth, LOL

On another note, DH wants to take the kids to my most favorite fried seafood restaurant. I'll let you know how it goes- have a good amount of calories to use, LOL

Good luck! Can you figure out what you want ahead of time? It's always best for me to look online, figure out what I'm going to get, and not even open the menu. Once I'm in a restaurant and open a menu, it's like all the crazy comes out! :)

Does anyone else feel like their emotions are all over the place? I feel so crabby at work, then I'm crabby at home. I am really kind of feeling more down then I am used to. Maybe it's hormonal from everything that has gone with my body in the past 6 weeks.....anyone else feel out of sorts lately??

Rockon- it's a little local place with no online presence! I just ordered what I usually order- me and DH split something usually- and I just ate what I felt like eating, but NO french fries and NO hush puppies, which is HUGE for me, LOL. I logged it as best I could, hopefully over-estimated (I used the long john silver's info in my fitness pal, I figured what I did eat wouldn't be any worse than them, LOL). I also came home and worked out. It's the first time I've eaten more like I "used to," and I did way better than I would have pre-band. So I consider it a win!

Val- yep, I know what you mean- I'm trying to make a concerted effort to not be crabby at home- that was one of DH's worries, that I got crabby when I was hungry and if this made me hungry all the time he wasn't going to want to deal, LOL. I think it's true that hormones go wacky- I heard that it takes some time for hormone levels to adjust to making levels appropriate for the weight loss (does that make sense?) in other words, they're still thinking we weigh what we used to, it takes awhile for the body to realize that it needs to make less since you're not as heavy.

Just try to be aware, try to do something for yourself (non-food related).

DH and I went out to eat AGAIN last night. I swear he's testing me. We went to red robin- there's pretty much nothing healthy there. I got their ago-Cobb-o salad- 734 calories without dressing according to their website!! I ate only the chicken and avocado and some lettuce and tomatoes- probably a little more than half. But the bigger victory was I didn't have the foicaccia bread it comes with, nor did I have any of DH fries!!! Tonight we are having a bunch of people over for dinner! Sigh, sometimes its hard to deal with. Oh well, I'm in this for the long haul!!! Can't wait for my first fill Monday!!

I had 2cc added. I didn't really feel restricted but I wasn't getting hungry every 2 hrs. Now that it has been a few weeks I am back to being hungry every 2 hrs again. I get my second fill 3/26. I talked to my trainer this week. I told him about the emotional impact the workout had & told him I didn't want to do that type of workout again. He said he was "breaking me down so he could build me up" I told him I have spent years breaking myself down duh that is why I'm fat! I told him his job is to build me up, I have already been as low as I can go. He apologized & we move on! Last night I went to a friends house for a dinner party. It was hard she made lasagna, that I couldn't have so I ate salad and fruit. Then desert was served. I had 3 tblspn Gelato & 1/2 an oatmeal cookie. It was a good night & I didn't feel guilty at all I total kicked ass in eating in moderation!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
