Is It Too Late For Me, Should I Give Up On My Lap Band?

Recommended Posts

I was banded June 6, 2011. I have lost about 40 lbs half of that I attribute to the pre op liquid diet. Being honest with myself I have not done anything that I was supposed to. To support my band I really have not been eating right or exercising, or getting my fills properly. Since this is a new year I want to make a new beginning. I want to know If I have damaged my chances of my band working properly. I have some restriction but I really can eat almost anything I want. I want to make an appt with my dr. And get a fill and get back on track. I feel ashamed that I have gone through this and am not a success. I blame myself totally and I hope I can get back on track. Please let me know if anyone has experienced this.

Each day is a new beginning! Start to do what you know is right, try to remember you are worth much more than food!

Call the doc on Monday, I'm sure you are not the 1st person to fall off the band wagon....

I think one of the most important reasons I stay on track is my family - I feel I have made a commitment. that commitment is for me and them. Who can you put in that category, it really helps to have a person or group to cheer you on.

First of all, get off the pity pot!!!! You have done VERY well and you need to believe in that and yourself. You are going through a phase and because you want to be a success, you will be. I have been banded >3 years and have had various phases and bumps in the road, too. I had to get a significant unfill 2 wks ago and have regained 12 pounds....but you know what? I own it...I did it and am now ready to get back on the band way of living and get these Holiday pounds banished. You didn't say how much you want to lose or what your goal is, but that is not the end....rather that is the beginning of another phase...maintenance. So perk up, grab some sunshine, get a band adjustment, crank up the exercise, and happy new year!!! Oh, yes, and keep posting your journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
