Are You Having Problems Taking Your Meds Post Lap Band Surgery??

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm scheduled for surgery Dec. 21 and am excited yet very nervous at the same time. I'm a little worried about how to take a couple of my meds. All of them I have can be cut into small pieces (size of birth controll pill). I have one shaped like a diamond so it'll definitely have to be crushed. Wondering if I'll be able to tolerate the taste of it?

How are you taking your meds? Are you mixing any of them with like sugar free Jello or anything?

Advice is greatly appreciated!!!

If they're small, you should have no trouble taking them without crushing or cutting. I think they say about the size of a tic tac. I take one a bit larger than that. About the size of a jelly belly and have not had an issue. Yet.

since we are on liquids only, dr told me not to take my bp meds or my Fluid pills. I had already stopped my arthritis medicine. He told me to watch my bp and if it started going up but since I am on Clear Liquids only I should need it. My bp been fine and I have no swelling in my ankles so I havent taken any. Now I do have alot of trouble getting Jello down, my tummy doesnt like anything cold. So I have only been able to drink hot broth and hot apple cider. Everytime I try jello my stomach cramps up real bad. I am going to call the dr on monday and see if that is normal. I will probably put a post out on the forum also to see if anyone else is having that problem.

Thanks ladies. Pretty sure I'll be able to break them all up small enough. Bought a pill cutter too. SO nervous about this and hope I've made the right choice! I know that sounds silly. Just scared I guess.

I had my prescriptions for meds changed to liquid versions until i was able to eat again ..i was given this info b4 surgery so i was able to change them all before i needed to. Am not on any meds now :)

Some pills like metformin for type 2 diabetes specifically say do not crush them so i had to change it.

I am also getting banded on 12/21 and have some of the same concerns. One of my heart meds is a capsule so it can't be crushed. I go for preop on Thursday so I will have to find out what to do but I am on clear liqueds from day

1-5 so I am not sure I can crush them and have apple sauce right after. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
