Super Tight/getting Stuck That Time Of The Month

Recommended Posts

I posted on this before but this month it happened again so I did some research.

Last month I couldn't keep anything down 2 days before my period-it was crazy! I mean I had yogurt and had to pull over on my way to work. Then after I got my period I was back to normal. This month same thing but it lasted longer into my period. I thought I had a slipped band because I was PBing and simply could not get any solids without PBing or just feeling stuck. Today I am back to normal! I can eat!! I found an interesting article about banding and that time of the month. Before you rush to the doctor's for an unfill you may want to wait a couple days (if it's that time of the month). I never had this problem until I lost around 40 pounds and the article actually addresses that-it's worth a read:

I too experience this every month, and it took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on. About 2 days before, and during my period, I can't eat ANYTHING. Like you, even yogurt or pudding won't go down and if I try, it hurts.

So glad to hear I am not alone!

I just went through this exact thing less than a week ago. Over Thanksgiving weekend, I thought my band had slipped. I was having horrible heartburn, everything was getting stuck. Monday morning I could barely even drink anything. I could only get through 1/3 of my Protein shake in a 20 min period. So I called my surgeon and went in that afternoon. We didn't discuss that time of the month (although it was just about to start for me), but he did say something about my band may have "settled" (whatever that means). He took out what he put in a year ago, which was 0.8cc. I hadn't had a fill in almost a year and hadn't experienced heartburn in 2 years, so that's why I thought it was a slip.

Well, what he took out worked. I haven't had any problems since. I'm less restricted than I was, but I'm actually glad for right now because I'm not having any problems with things getting stuck. I'm visiting someone in another state next month that doesn't know about my surgery and I'll be eating every meal with him, so I'd rather not have to deal with food issues.

I'm calorie counting, so I won't be overeating or anything. But yeah, I was pretty convinced my band had slipped. I'm kind of thinking it had just tightened because I was starting my period and I may have just aggravated it more with my eating.

I had also been consuming a lot of salt, so I think that probably also contributed.

Going through this now (at least i'm hoping thats the problem). i have gotten so tight I can't eat much and even cold liquids like ice tea are having a hard time. I choked on mashed potato yesterday and thought I was gonna die...lol.... I am also getting heartburn at night but none during the day. I have been living on very liquidy refried Beans for a few days. I can't seem to get dairy products down so beans are my next source of Protein. I was doing fine and then all of the sudden my band got tight and I should start this week so I hope thats the problem. The heartburn is the worst part of it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
