Traveling With The Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm about 8 weeks post op. Have had 2 fills and doing ok. However I am going out of the country for a month in Jan. My next fill is due 2 weeks before I leave. Would I be better off waiting until I get back for that next fill? I'm concerned about eatting while I'm gone. I know I won't be able to have Protein Shakes in the mornings (or at all) I am worried about eatting period. Has anyone had issues with traveling and food? I haven't had any episoids of being struck or PB'ing and I don't want to start that when so far from home. Looking forward to the trip but worried about the diet.

I would say if you are worried, don't get filled until after you get back. Flying can make the band swell alone, so to add a fill to it might be a little hard on you. Since you are eating ok now and things aren't getting stuck, I'd let it be. The worse thing in the world would be to be out of the country and needing to be unfilled!

I would say hold off until you get back. Right before I got married, my doctor specifically told me to wait until I got back from our honeymoon to get a fill. He didn't want to risk me being too tight or having complications while on vacation. A month being a little loose is by far better than a month of being too tight and all the complications that can go with it.

Thank you. I felt like I should wait but then thought I was being paroniod. I'm gonna wait. I'm still losing at a good rate (I feel like) with only 2 fills. Looking forward to the trip but will miss my morning Protein Drinks. Thanks for the help.

Look into BariWise Fruit Drinks. They come in little bottles with just powder and you add the Water and shake. A great travel aid. The powder does not weight all that much. I order mine online from Bariatric Choice and they have chocolate, coffee, Orange pineapple, Kiwi strawberry, and Wild berry flavors. 15 protien and70 calories. I have had all but the chocolate and none were chalky!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
