I was a diabetic on Metfomin, Byetta and Lantus. My blood sugar was often over 200, A1C 8.7. Since being banded 9 weeks ago I've lost over 50 lbs, blood sugar an hour ago was 88, and A1C last week was 6.1. I still have sleep apnea, but will probably be over it in a few months. BP and cholesterol have always been good, but are better now. Give it a try, you won't

regret it.

I have diabetes and was banded in August. I'm not losing as fast as I thought, but I was on tons of meds for diabetes and been able to get off of 2 meds and another med has been cut in 1/2. I'm hoping as I start losing some more I can start cutting more. I still take metformin and actos. My last A1C, about 1 month after surgery was 7.5 and I'm hoping this next one will be even lower.

I had diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. I was 191 pounds when I got the band two years ago. 30 pounds later I am off all meds and cholesterol is under 200. I would do it again in a heart beat because it probably added years to my life.

Thanks Robin J, Corrigan, and Three Musketeers for you information. I am so looking forward to getting off my meds and living a healthier life. My BMI is 40. I am so glad that I found this site and can share info with others who have been through what I have. Good luck to us all.

I have (had) diabetes where I was taking 60 units of lantus at bedtime plus oral meds before meals. triglycerides, cholesterol, etc where all out of control which resulted n Cardiac surgery.

I was banded 1/31/11, and since then all my bloodwork is within normal limits, I am no longer taking any meds for my diabetes, other meds have either been dc'd of cut in half.

I get lab work done every 3 months before seeing my PCP. I anticipate further improvement as I am still loosing weight and have increased my exercise plan dramatically.

That is awesome! Congratulations! I hope to be there soon. I only take meds for diabetes but have seen a difference. I'm off my insulin and victoza. Taking actos and metformin and hoping to start cutting that down soon. It has also helped my pocket. The victoza alone was $50 a month. Whew!

Thank You. But it wasn't me who did the work.

I never had sleep apnea, confirmed by the pulmonary workup. Although my Wife would beg to differ!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
