I tried making an appointment with the local hospital for two days. Today I just decided to go there and actually make the appointment face to face since they were not picking up the phone. I found out the waiting list is 3-4 months long. I could go to another hospital with a shorter waiting time but that is too far in my opinion. Anybody else on a waiting list for their first appointment?

Hi...I initially had a 3 month wait for my first consultation, which was initially sched for I believe OCT 11 at the end of July. However, I was way too anxious b/c i knew that my 90 days didnt start til the first consultatiton, so i called back the first week of Aug and begged to be called when someone cancels or resch, and i was told the problem with that is that most people only cancels the day b4, I told them it wouldnt b a problem for me and i would drop whatever just to take that appt, lucky me i was off of work for the whole month of August, so I rcv a call on the 16th of aug asking if i can come in the next day, I said yes with the quickness, and now my 90 days is up 11/17 and insurance wl b submiited on the 18th, so pls pray for me that i get approved

We have a waiting list for most things because healthcare is low cost or paid for by insurance here. No rich doctors here. No huge lawsuits. My operation and the year long follow-up are all paid by insurance. Each hospital gets a set amount of money from the government to pay for certain operations (not all of course) and when that money is up. You have to wait till next year. The good side is you can pick your hospital, doctor, and you have a huge hand in picking your treatments. You can also go to another country and have the operation and it'll be paid for by your insurance. Many go to Belgium but I find that too far for something that can wait a few months.

wow that's not bad here in Alberta, Canada its 2-3yrs for Alberta health to cover it, if you want it done sooner you would have to pay for it on your own.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
