My information was sent to both of my insurance companies on 11/4/2011. I called every day to both of them and yesterday I was told approved by BCBS but had to wait till this morning for them to really mean the approval. Then I called UHC, today and asked if it made a difference that they were my secondary and the ysaid yes, why did we get all of this paperwork ? I said I am unsure what you are saying, she said because UHC is secondary, I didn't need to send all 22 pages of information, when it comes to secondary you just submit it to be paid. UHC said if BCBS said yes ,then we say yes. I am still uneasy about them just giving me an approval over the phone. And I don't get a copy of the approvals! Just the Dr. Both places said they faxed it over already and my dr's office is saying no they don't have it and no date can be set till they get it. I call BCBS back and now the so called nice nurse is not so nice anymore, she said I faxed it and if the dr's office is saying no, then they have to call not you! I was like hey, this is my policy and my life, why don't I get a copy of this approval letter? She said have dr office to call and hung up. Drives me crazy !! So best advice call them daily and ask for a reference number. Good luck!

Goodness, how annoying. I'm nervous because I have blue cross primary and secondary but I know only my secondary policy covers lap-band. I'm worried about if they see my primary deny they are automatically going to deny also and will have to appeal.

I think its odd that you do not get a copy of the approval letter. I have Aetna and they faxed the approval to my surgen and then mailed me a copy. I am keeping that just in case they come back later and try to say they never approved it

I have been waiting for Aetna to make a decision on my surgery for 2 weeks today. I have also been calling every day. There isn't anything I know of that you can do to speed up the process. I'm a little nervous.. not sure why it's taking them so long.

I called my insurance and neither of them have anything on file yet. Makes me really aggravated! Been trying to call dr office to see what's going on but can't get anyone and no one has bothered calling me back yet. :(

Cigna took a whole 33 days to deny me. They said that my 6 month supervised diet was insufficient documentation and that it needed to have been within the last 24 months. The policy however clearly states that if I have documented obesity for five years I can use records older than 24 months but still within the five years. We've resubmitted with more recent paperwork but my concern now is that it's not all from the same provider. I'm sick to my stomach over this. I can't understand why it took them so long to deny SMH. I hope you guys have better success with getting approved.

I am waiting on an approval from BCBSI. I feel confident that I meet their criteria but If they deny me, I will be devastated and just CRUSHED.

I have BCBS Federal as primary. I didn't even know that it had been submitted until I received a copy of the request for more information. I called the next day to see if they had received the information requested and they said that I was approved. I worried a lot for mothing. My surgery is scheduled for 12/2. I start my Protein Shakes on Friday. Had my preop yesterday and it is a go subject to the approval of my PCP. I has a recent infection. But I do not think she will turn me down. She is the one who recommended it. Tomorrow my relationship with food ad I know it ends. I am ready to continue on my journey to good health

Good luck to all of you,

Nelinda

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
