Trouble picking a surgery date

Recommended Posts

Ok so I need some advice. Im having trouble deciding when to have this surgery (depending if i get approved of course)

My company shuts down between christmas and new years so I wanted to have the surgery Dec 26th so I can go back to work the first week in January.

I am so amped to have this. I am truly READY

However, I am trying to keep this quiet as only a handful of people know about it and i dont want the holidays to be a problem with my preop diet and all with so many parties going on and stuff

(im not so concerned with will power as i am about people making comments and maybe will power a little bit :P )

I was thinking of doing it January that way i can start my preop after new years...(i know, so cliche)

But i have off that week in December I dont want to make my bosses angry. i mean if its surgery they cant do anything about it but i still feel so irresponsible. and i dont want to hear my coworkers make comments about another "vacation"

i also am so AMPED for this i dont know if i can wait any longer...even if it is a couple of weeks

so my question is,

What would YOU do?

im having a rough time with this and its weighing on me....

and I know alot of you will say "do whats best for you"

but with this particular situation, i dont know what would be best because the end result will still be the same...WEIGHT LOSS!!!

Who cares what the co-workers think? Get used to it. Because as soon as you start dropping the weight they are going to talk about you anyway!!;)

I too am not telling anyone. I chose December to take advantage of the holiday time off.

something to consider is that during the holiday week surgeons and staff may not be in for any follow up problems. infection is a risk and what would happen if they are on vacation the week after xmas or Hanukah (spelling?) check with their schedule for the week of and after your surgery to make sure they are there. maybe waiting until after the holiday would be better. some people get alittle depressed after surgery and you may not want to feel depressed for xmas and new years. just something to think about. i was honest with my bosses. i told them in august that i am having this done and it would only work with their support. i told all my coworkers but told them that it stays between all of us. i have to miss my xmas party because of the surgery and i have to be on a liquid diet for thanksgiving, so think about confiding in your boss and ask him to keep it quiet but ask him for his support. good luck in whatever you chose.

I know he will be there for December 26th surgery and entire rest of the week after surgery but the week of new years he will be on vacation. i was planning for a january 16th that way i could do preop diet the first 2 weeks of january then have surgery.....i just feel like if i wait then its like "i wanna get my big holiday foods in" which is not the case

dont feel that way, plenty more holidays to come. we didn't get to this point from one holiday splurge. hopefully another 100 years of holidays. : ) I think we are always on the defensive when it comes to our diets. don't be. make a list and weigh (no pun intended) your options. pros and cons. good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
