Thanks for sharing. My date is 11/17/11 and I am a little nervous. My surgery will be outpatient as well. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

I was banded yesterday. Arrived at hospital at 8:30 got all wired up with ivs etc. surgery was scheduled for 10 lady came out about 9:30 and said theyve called for her. Was wheeled to surgery holding area for about a half hour, then was rolled to surgery, switched from bed to table. Gas mask on and that was it, woke upin same holding area very groggy where clocked showed it was about 11. they noticed I was awake, came over asked how I was feeling then things got rolling I was then changed from a bed to a chair they went and got hubby, he made phone calls to let everyone know I was out and doing ok. I was then wheeled back to where I started, given some cystal light, ice chips something for pain and was told as soon as I could pee I could go home, so I drank the crystal light which was in a medicine cup and ate some ice chips dosed a little asked again if I had to pee I said well lets go see and get this show on the road. I did go then I was told I could get dressed and be on my way. Pain has been on and mainly on left side and also feel like I have a bad chest cold, I thinm this may have been from breathing tube dont think I have much gas no shoulder pain but have taken gasx strips just in case I am mistaken. Havent been hungry, just sore as stated and tired wanting to sleep.

I was banded yesterday afternoon. The surgery went well but my doctor had to repair a hiatal hernia. I'm experiencing pain in my shoulder and where my port is located. The pain should subside by Tuesday according to my doctor. I'm on a liquid diet for 48 hours and then I can switch over to applesauce, pureed Soup, malt o meal, vegetable juice, Protein Shake, Popsicle, yogurt, juices, and of course Water.< /p>

Hi All,

I got my band on Wednesday. The whole procedure went so smooth. I checked in at 7:30 am and was heading home at noon! I had an hiatal hernia which the doc repaired...guess that's fairly common??? Anyway, today is day 5 and I'm feeling pretty good....a little gas pain and some soreness at the port site mostly. I do get tired quickly so I'm taking it easy. Back to work on Tuesday...hopefully. My follow up is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Haven't been hungry. Drinking lots of Water, some diluted grape or cranberry juice plus Protein shakes. A friend suggested Light Muscle Milk (chocolate flavor). They're pretty good and seem to fill me up. I am so excited for the future that my band will bring!!!

Wishing you all the best! Good luck to those whose surgery is yet to come.

Deb

Got the official word today. To be banded on 11/17. Can't wait , best part is the doc does not require a "liver shrinking diet" so no liquid diet before hand whoo hooo

I'm 11/17 too! Although I'm suffering through the pre op diet! not as bad as I expected;)

Thanks for the support going in two weeks to get banded. Nervous but looking at the end of the rainbow for the payoff. i can tell that this will be a difficult journey but it is one that is time for me to take. Thanks again

I worried about that too what will happen if something causes me to have my band removed. But I am pretty sure I would have it replaced or do whatever is the newest besides the Bypass at that time and I will find someway to pay for it just like the band as I was self pay. But I would like to keep it forever that is what I am hoping and praying for. But who knows what tomorrow brings. We could get hit by a bus and still have our Band. Just think positive thats all we can do. Watch out for buses!!!

Good Luck to all those who will be banded this week. Hang in - think positive - listen to your Doctors - and go for it with gusto!

Mine will be on one week tomorrow and already it seems soo much longer. After a couple of days of rough Patches - I turned a corner and feel fabulous. Yea!

Positive vibes heading out to all who recently banded and about to be banded (oh and of course everyone else too!) rolleyes.gif

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
