Have A date

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I finally have a date Nov. 10, 2011 @ 9:30 am. Now that Ihave a date and have stared getting the papers I am getting really scared. I don't know how to overcome this. I know I want to loose weight and have tried so many different things and didn't succeed. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me with this fear? I don't like the mask over my face to put me to sleep.< /p>

Open to any suggestions to help me overcome this.

Hi,

Congrats on your date for surgery!!! I was scared to death because I have had 2 strokes, so I understand your fear. Let them know how nervous you are about the mask and they will give you something to relax you beforehand. I barely remember being moved into the OR. You will never regret this decision, I promise. I just wish I would have done it sooner. Good luck and remember it is ok to be nervous, the docs and nurses will help you through that stage. Let us know how you did!!!! This is your new journey in life, embrace it!!!!

Thanks for the word of encouraging words. I don't want to remember going in the OR I just want to wake up and know it's over. I hope yu are right they give me something to relax me because if not when they put the mask over my face I will panic because it has happened before.

I know how you feel. when i was approved and had my date, i started really freaking out. it was really happening and i was scared. i cried and my husband was not sure what to do with me. LOL! i talked to a good friend who had it done and she talked me off the ledge. There is a reason why you went through the seminar, consultation and researching the lapband. to lose weight and get healthy again. I looked at my children sleeping the night i was approved and knew i wanted to be there to see them grow up, to teach them healthy habits and to live a long life. I knew right then and there that i had to do this as i had tried so many other things and nothing was working for me. i am down 40 lbs in 4.5 months and i feel so good. My goal is to be under 200 by the end of the year.

it is normal to be nervous. tell them before surgery how nervous you are and they will give you a sedative. i don't even remember going into the surgery room. sedatives knock me out. i told my husband when i woke up that i never left the room. LOL!

i too wish i had done this sooner. i researched it for over a year and now i think back and realize i could have been down to my goal weight by now had i done it then. but i was not ready.

sending you hugs and wishing you the best on your new journey :)

Most anesthesiologists use your IV for sedatives and anesthesia these days. No mask involved. It's a very easy procedure,

you're wheeled into the OR, everyone says hi, and next thing you know you're in the recovery room. Couldn't be easier.

The worst part is being so thirsty afterwords. It really is just that easy. If you spent as much time and effort following

your surgeon's instructions as you do worrying, you'll do great. Best of luck.

Thanks I hope that they give me the sedative that you had so I don't remember anything but waking up. My surgeon had me to watch this emmi thing and my goodness it just added fuel to the fire. I appreciate you taking the time to help me through this. I look at my children and grandchildren and want to be there for them as you stated. I am doing for myself and them but mainly for me because being overweight is not a thing that I have enjoyed at all. I want to know what it is like to be able to buy clothes that are not in the plus size.

You are doing great down 40 lbs in 4.5 month hope I can do that well I too want to be under the 200 mark I know it won't be by the end of the year like you but I'm going to get there. I am excited o buy me a otfit for my birthday in Feb. sizes smaller than before. I quit celebrating my birthday but next year I will.

Can I keep in touch with you because you have been so inspirational to me?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
