Hi Everyone,

I am Kelli and I just had Lap Band on Monday. I am not feeling great today and came online to see if I can find some reassurance that what I feel is normal. I am feeling bloated with heartburn and uncomfortable. I had some cottage cheese for Breakfast and felt fine after that. Then I had some mashed potatoes with my Protein powder for lunch and was fine. At 3 I had my Protein shake and my calcium chews and felt too full. I thought it would go away. They told me a couple of hours. It has been over 4 hrs and I still feel uncomfortable. My incision where the port is nearby is uncomfortable too. I was told by my doc that I would be fine in few days after surgery but I am still waiting. Is this normal? Hope you all are doing GREAT! :)

Hi Kelli,

Congrats to you. I'm still pre-op, I'll be starting my 2 week liquid diet on 10/4 (surgery date set for 10/18). I'm surprise to see that they have you on "food" so soon after surgery. I guess every doctor is different. As for me, I was told I would be on liquids 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. Then I would move on to pureed stuff (aka phase 3). I don't have any words of wisdom, as you're farther than me on this journey. But, I do wish you well. Maybe day 4 is just a real doozy for ya. Chin up buttercup, we're rootin' for ya!

I am on pureed foods for 2 weeks, soft food for 2 weeks and then add in one solid food at time after that. By then I will have my first fill as well. I had to do liquid diet for 3 days prior to surgery. My friend had Gastric Sleeve and she did 2 weeks. I am so glad I didn't have to do that. I was dying from 3 days. Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow you guys are lucky! I was on liquids for 2 weeks, mushies for 2 weeks, then could start to incorporate more solids in after the 4th week. Guess it paid off though cause I lost 31 lbs that first month. Anyway the answer is yes to all of the above. Give it a few more days and you should be feeling much better. Your stomach is still quite swollen on day 4 so you may be feeling almost "stuck" Try drinking warm tea in very small sips. Good luck and congrats :)

boy, I love to hear about all that weight!! did you feel full enough. I think my doc will use the same food formula. I wonder if the person who is having trouble is chewing well and not mixing any liquids with the meal. I have been told no liquids 30 minutes b4 or after?

maybe you are not ready for so much food, you can just take it easy for a couple of days on liquid - and im not sure pinneaple jiuce is good so early but it breaks down food, and that may help a little bit of it. hope its better

It seems all the doctors have different methods. I've read on here where some doctors let you do what is going on here. I know I'm on a 2 week liquid before and after then after the 2 week liquid after I get to so on pureed.

It is such a deliccate process try not to overdue.

I had to be on 3 shakes a day and one small meal the first week before surgery and then just 4 shakes the next week. I was eating soft food 3 days after my surgery and regular food 5 days postop. My sisters Dr. was different. She only had to be on Clear Liquids the day before the day of and one day after surgery but was a month before she could eat solid food after her sugery. Every Dr. is different. None of the things you mentioned happened to me so I would just keep in touch with your Dr. Hope you feel better real soon.

Hi - I have my surgery tomorrow and yes every doc is different. I will be week 1 clear liquids, week 2 full liquids, weeks 3 and 4 pureed, weeks 5 to 8 are soft foods, then regular foods at week 9. Very slow process but I'm going to do what he says. Trust your doctor's recommendation.

I had my surgery done on Monday, but I didn't eat any solid food. I think it's best to be on liquids for the first week. It's hard, i'm hungry today, but just trying to drink my way through it.

Had my surgery on Saturday. I was expecting a liquid diet for the first week, but my dr said I could have an egg for Breakfast the next day! Had applesauce and yogurt for the next couple days and he said I was ready for solids. I've been carefully chewing and eating very slowly, and seem to be fine. The worst discomfort is from the gas pains in my chest and shoulders. The best news is that as of this morning, I'm already down 10 pounds! I've been trying to lose those ten pounds for two years!!

Best of luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
