GAINING weight on protein shakes only pre-op??

Recommended Posts

Banded 9/20 - day five of recovery and all seems to now be going well. I had to return to my surgeon's office on Friday (day four) and have some of the fill taken out of the band - every time I tried to swallow anything - even Water, it burned like my chest was on fire! Took 3cc out, now all seems to be going well - although I must say, I'm certainly not quite ready for public display -- all I've been doing today is expelling gas like a machine! Its really gross, but it feels so much better to release than to retain! Good thing my family has gone out for the day -- this would be a topic for much discussion - and it hurts still to laugh.

My surgeon orders a full week of Clear liquids following surgery - I must admit, I'm beginning to really look forward to a bit of yougurt and cream of Tomato Soup is something I'm absolutely dreaming about. With two weeks of only Protein shakes pre-surgery, week of Clear Liquids post surgery - anything that resembles actual food is sounding marvelous right now.

BUT ....down 25 lbs from September 6, so the journey has definitely begun. I saw a couple of friends just after surgery, and they told me I already need a new reduced size of jeans -- my old ones are getting baggy. YEAH!!

I am going for 2nd endoscopy wed, but i did have some stomach issues , and I did all my yearly tests colonoscopy etc etc before they cut on me I wanted to make sure I am good on the inside, at 58, its best to check, I do hope I do not agin weight w the shakes, but mr Dr also insists i get from him. I think that way, they know you taking the right stuff to soften that liver,

I am praying for an October band, I am ready! soo ready.. see my surgeon oct 4 for final weight in and insurance submission... Lord take it to that insurance lady who approves in 2 days---- yes yes. :P congrats on those banded, how are you doing "Mischief"?

2 Weeks before my surgery I was also put on a liquid diet. It was the HMR which was 500 caleries per day. nothing else, no Jello, no nothing. I lost 10 pounds by surgery. one warning i gained 5 pounds the day after surgery from just liquid and jello but now 8 days after I lost 3 addition lbs from my surgery date. And my band did not even get a fill yet. So hang in there. Trick is eat right, do not nash, and excercise.

Well, my surgery took place despite my weight gain. I literally STARVED myself for the final 3 days of my pre-op diet, drinking almost zero -- this resulted in a net weight loss. Surgery happened on Tuesday, September 20 and I am now BANDED. The surgery went off fairly well - I was able to get up and about walking on my own - pain was not too bad. A bit of discomfort, especially in the incision where the port is located. The only problem I had was with the oral pain meds -- when I swallowed the meds hit the band and just STUCK there. Burned like mad. It just wasn't worth taking them - so I decided to stick with just ice bags and forgo the pain meds.

Now the real work truly begins -- I'm hoping that this "tool" will help me to FINALLY get control of my weight. I've been overweight to obese my entire 56 years - and am really ready to be over it.

Luck go all others as they begin this journey.

You and I have much in common:) My surgery is next Wednesday...Please let me know how you're doing...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
