stopped losing weight...???

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 7/7---was 234 the week before. Today is September 12, 2011 and to date I am down to 212. I WAS 208, but for some reason after my first fill in late August, I stopped losing weight and now I have gained back some. I am beyond upset. I don't feel any difference...never feel full and it feels like since I did get the fill, I've gone backwards in my progress. I want to cry. I didn't go through all of this to gain weight back! It took me a year to get accepted through insurance and I had a hard time after surgery with nausea. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I do the Protein Shake in the morning and I was having yogurt and maybe chicken at night. The doc who gave me the fill said not to have so much liquids. Plus,( and the only reason why I bring this up is because it might be a factor) I have not had a menstrual cycle SINCE my surgery. Now I am 49, but still....could this be why? I really hope there is someone out there who has an answer for me...plus I need to find lap band support groups out in Suffolk. I live in Bayport.

Thank you to ANYONE who can help....

Don't get down on yourself! YOU ARE DOING GREAT! Look at what you've lost girlie! Everyone loses at a different pace, don't beat yourself up cause you're not keeping up with those who drop it fast. You made a good decision, and you're being proactive! Be proud!

It sounds to me like it's not enough food, too. And don't drink so much? wth! I drink 60+ oz of Water a day.

Try nixing the yogurt and eating meat instead. Yogurt (even the sugar free) has a ton of carbs. My dr has me under 30g carbs per day, and when i slip and eat something carb-laden that i shouldn't, i see it. My body is very sensitive to them, and your might be too. Can't hurt to try!

Also, you haven't had a cycle since surgery, this is another factor that's probably messing with you. Female hormones...they get us every chance they get :) Week of my period i lose nothing, then week after i drop 3-4lb overnight. Have you considered that maybe you're starting menopause? That will most definitely affect your Water weight.

If you're doing everything right, and the scale goes up, just remember it's water weight. You're not going to gain weight if you're not eating too much or the wrong foods. It's...lol ghost weight! Playing with your head. I'd also suggest you back off the scale. once a month, once every two weeks at most.

i hth, don't lose faith. if you need someone to talk to you're welcome to contact me!

I agree with the others that you are not eating enough. Also, I don't understand why your doctor would tell you to not drink so much. I drink 64 oz of fluids a day, which is recommended for any weight loss plan. Also, I only eat 2 grams of sugar per entree and it has done wonders for me. That is what my nutritionist advised. Talk to a good nutritionist and see what you can change. You will lose eventually, although, I know it is disheartening at this point, but don't give up!!!!!! Right now I am at a place where I have only lost 1 lb in the last month, so I am revising things to get started again. Do not give up, fight!!!!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
