Ok so I am set for surgery on Friday of this upcoming week and Im really excited but now that its here I feel like its all going so fast!!! I have been waiting 9 months total for my surgery and was expecting to go through all the steps before surgery only to be called and told that I will be skipping all the steps including 3 weeks of liquid opti-fast pre-op diet. Instead of 3 weeks I am doing 1 and a half weeks is it only me or is this tough or what? im into day 4 and feel like crap...Im nauseous, dizzy and the smell and sight of food is driving me crazy!!! I broke down and cried today because the lady next to me at the store was buying cheese!!! Seriously cheese I feel like a crazy lady!!!! It took all my strength to not grab the cheese and make a run for it and the only thing keeping me from the fridge right now while my family is out is writing this note!!! So sorry for blabbing on and on but this blabbing is saving me lol...Oh and you know how on tv sometimes people see other people and other things as food...ya like so totally happening... I swear my dog looked like a hamburger today!!! And as if on purpose the tv seems to only be showing commercials for food and or restaurants and the tv shows themselves no better: cake boss, cupcake wars, hells kitchen, cake walk ...geese a little support here quit rubbing in the fact that I am starving myself, literally starving myself!!!! I read and see all these success stories and know that it will be worth it in the end but right now it is seriously testing my mental strength. So thanks for listening while I complain it is very much appreciated....

You are not alone! I had a really tough time with the liquid pre-op diet as well. And the weekends were harder than during the week. My cravings and hallucinations about food didn't come until about a day after my banding. Almost every day since then I have been craving/smelling sausage pizza. Every commercial is for some form of fried chicken. Like popcorn chicken, popeye's chicken, long john silver's chicken. OMG, it's driving me crazy!blink.gif I don't see my dog as a hamburger, but I dream about french fries!! I know this too will pass. Keep the strength and good luck to you!!

I know exactly how you feel! I'm 3days post op & on Clear Liquids. Then after tomorrow I will be on Protein Shakes for 2 weeks before moving on to mushie or soft foods, & boy I cannot wait!! But I keep saying to myself, it's not forever & it will all be worth it in the end:)

Watch some movies with no commericials and stop watching cake boss or that channel. Its hard to do the liquids but you will get through it. If you have HBO or something try to watch movies so there are no tempting commercials. Start a journal of your hell you are going through you will laugh about it later on when you are thin

I have been drinking muscle milk light. Lots of Protein 20 grams and takes really good. Stay out of the store or away from food. Have someone else get what you need. You are not alone. I am day 5 of liquids and I am all of those things. Keep reading sucess stories and drinking Water. The Water is good for you and at least you will pee often and not think about food then. I feel your pain and frustration.

Mrs.Crosby

You are doing the right thing by writing your note!

Feel free anytime to write to keep you on course. It sounds

rough, I have not been where you are and cant relate but it

sounds tough. It also seems like a good start to the rest of the

tests that await. You will do great, take this one day at a time.

Good thoughts to you!

Its tough, really tough. And you're in the hardest part of it. If you can get through the first week, the other two are not quite as bad, but it does take a lot of strength. It made me so ill, the doc took me off it as I didnt have a big liver anyway (had had a liver ultrasound) and was a BMI of 35. I couldnt hack it, I couldnt even stand up without passing out!

I do wonder just how much liver shrinkage you'll get in the shorter time frame? I guess a few days is enough to deplete the liver of glycogen (and a lot of water) quickly but you wont get a lot of true fat loss in that time. But I guess the doc knows what he's doing.

Never mind, hang in there, this is all for the best cause. If you cave in, which you must try not to do, but if you do, avoid any carbs at all costs as those will just undo your hard work as your body squirrels them away filling up your liver and muscles with lots of glycogen again. If you MUST eat, make it Protein.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
