I'm curious. I was banded last Wednesday August 31st and I've had to sleep in the recliner because it hurts to lay down. I've tried laying down and it feels like my port is pulling hard. I even put two pillows under my knees and it hurt. I try sleeping on my right side and it pulls my tummy/port also. Has anyone else had this discomfort? I'm ready to sleep in my bed and not chair. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes! For the first 4 nights after surgery I couldn't even sleep in a recliner. I had to sleep sitting straight up in my wing back chair with multiple pillows behind my back. Then I graduated to the recliner for a few nights. Then I could sleep in my bed but with 4 pillows elevating my head and back. FINALLY I could sleep in bed normally but, I believe, it was 3 weeks til I could sleep on my port side. Even still, at 5 weeks post op, it's uncomfortable to sleep on my port side.

All that to say, you're not alone :-) hope that helps and you get to feeling better soon!

I think I slept in the recliner for the first 3 weeks because it hurt so bad to be in the bed! It does get better!

I slept in the recliner one night and then tried the bed on night 2. I am a side sleeper, I put a pillow in front of me and hugged it. I kind of put part of it a little underneath me and it kept me propped up a little. I slept a whole lot better like that than I did in the chair. I hope this helps. And just to give you a little hope, I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow and I feell almost completely normal now. sleeping is not an issue at all -except it is hard to sleep because my mind is racing with excitement about the pounds that are melting off! lol

It will get better :) I slept in the recliner for 2 weeks for the same reason. After that, I had no problem. Just give it some time and I promise it will get better :)

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this difficulty. I'll continue to try each night to sleep with pillows under me and just wait it out.

I was also banded on 8/31..first night i sat up in the hospital bed, second night i sat up in a recliner at home. By the 3rd night i was exhausted so i propped myself up in my bed with lots of pillows..Was very uncomfortable, but i got through the night. Each night since has gotten better, i am sleeping somewhat normal, but do have some soreness on the port side. I am taking Gas-x and that helps get rid of some of that bloating feeling.

I dont have a recliner. I always slept in my own bed but used some pillows. It was difficult at first but after a while you figure out how to get up and down etc.

Hope you get to sleep in your own bed soon!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
