JUST A FEW DAYS POST OP

Recommended Posts

Im 5 days post op and STILL have the horrible gas pain in my left shoulder!. Some times during the day i dont feel it, and some times it literally has me in tears! I am going to get the Gas-x strips tmr. I have some gas/bloating still in my stomach, and like the other posts, im not sure if its hunger or just plain gas. I dont feel hungry at all, thank god cause the thought of food right now makes me wanna puke! I can thankfully sleep normally now..first 3 nights i slept sitting up. I know first few weeks are the toughest, but geeze i just wanna feel good.

Cakelly I hear ya. I walked around the store today for an hr, cleaned my house and stuff. Just trying to get back to normal. I really miss my 16 month old. He is here but I can't hold him or pick him up. I tried holding him today and he kicked me in my port and I doubled over in pain. He says mama and reaches for me but I have to tell him no. I know this is temp but I can't wait till 10 days and I can hold my son. So far I'm tolerating all waters and juices. It hurts less. The gas x is helping a little. I can sleep lying down so i know that's good. I'm taking one day at a time

I was banded on september 1st. I have horrible gas pains, not from the surgery gas but just gas in general. All I do all day long is pass gas and burp! I was going to go into work today but felt that all the gas was a major issue and I work very closely with everyone. I know I just couldn't sit still and pass gas all day long in front of my co-workers. I have a call in to my doctor as I write this so I can ask them about the gas issue and the horrible diarrhea. When is this going to stop? I'm starting pureed foods tomorrow and I'm so glad about this because I feel absolutely hungry! The Protein Shakes taste horrible, not matter what I put in them. Of course, I'm hoping that when I can add the fruit to them tomorrow that they will taste 100% better. I'm looking forward to something other than broth and popsickle sticks. I'm suppose to go back to work tomorrow and do hope that some of these issues are NOT so bad then. I guess only time will tell!

OMG! I just signed up for this site and your post could be me! I'm having the same problems, gas, pressure, can barely take anything in, including Water. My stomach is rumbly all of the time, and I can't tell if I'm hungry or if its gas. I'm ready to go and have it taken out, I feel like I'm going crazy! What did everyone tell you about the gas and pressure? I'm new to this and haven't figured out how to navigate the site yet. Oh yeah, I also am 5 days out!

Hi irc! I've been told to walk, walk, walk to help move the gas. I've been walking and it's helped a little. Not enough for me so this is what I have been doing: stretching my torso and upper body as much as I can. This helps ease my back pain. Rocking back and forth on the toilet. That helps push out the gas too. Taking gas x helps a little. Eating hot food or drinks eases it a bit too. The biggie is taking my liquid pain killer. It dulls the nerves and knocks me out at night. I also suggest bending at the waist while standing. I swear this is many times worse than pregnancy.

My surgery was the 1st and I am feeling horrible and very miserable =( My gas moves in my abdomen whenever I walk... Walking DOES NOT help me. It may work for others but it is not working for me.... Today was the first day i was actually able to finish a Protein shake since the surgery. I know i'm most likely dehydrated but what can I do about that,,,,, My port site hurts so bad most times i need to put my palm over the site and apply a slight pressure to gain some relief.

I have to take my pain medicine just to sleep at night because i am so uncomfortable and bloated, I highly doubt im losing anything because my body is basically in starvation mode. Its has nothing to sustain it....

Has anyone else been unable to burp? My gas collect right underneath my band but no matter how much i try it wont come up. The only way i have lost some gas is getting on all fours and assuming a downward facing dog like position.

Seriously having buyers remorse right now not even joking

Mznelly have u weighed yourself??? I have and I've been losing at least a pound a day. So go weigh in. I can't burp. It just swells up and goes back down. Try gas x or anything else I suggested on my previous post. Breathing deeply in and out has helped. Maybe Constipation makes it worse I dunno, but on day 2 I was having my doubts if this was a good idea. It has been better these past 2 days. I couldn't even get down Water with out gas pains. Now I can drink. I know being patient sucks but it slowly gets better, heating pad can work also.

Hang in there!! It gets a lot better! You are smart to walk around -- that helps get the gas moving out, which will reduce the pain you are feeling. I take chewable One a Day Vitamins -- you should ask your doctor what's right for you.

This is a really incredible tool -- and it really works if you work with it!! Am sending all of the newbies on this post best wishes for lots of success with your bands! Also, take "before" pictures and your measurements today if you haven't already!! You will want them later!

Best wishes,

Catherine

I have been taking gas x extra strength thin strips like candy it only gives me momentary relief( an hr or so) then its back to the bloating and dancing gas UGH!!!! I weighed myself this morning and i lost a whopping *drum roll please* 1 pound. So yeah like i thought my body is in starvation mode holding on to everything it can.

I called to make a post op check up today with my surgeon and was very adamant that i want to see my surgeon not his assistant... My mom went last week and she didn't get to see him. I know i sound like im being difficult but this gas is making me into a full fledged monster!! I'm tired of being cooped up inside ( raining the whole week) in pain and misery

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
