2-days Post-Op and in pain

Recommended Posts

31 yr old female from Brooklyn, NYC!! I 2 days post-op and still in a lot of pain. I'm excited about what's to come but nervous at the same time. If anyone can share their experiences with me so that I know I'm not alone in this I'd really appreciate it. Is everyone in a lot of pain the first few days post-op? HELP lol

I am almost two weeks post op and I did not have a lot of pain. I had great pain medication though. If you have any take it!!!! It helps a lot!! Then walk around so that the GAS don't build up!!!!

everyone is different and their pain tolerance is different too. i have a high threshold for pain, so i took my pain meds, otc ibuprofen for 2 days. the gas was the worst for me, took the Mylanta gas chewables for several days. did alot of walking around the house, used a heating pad on my shoulder for the pain. good luck to you, hope it gets better soon.

I was in pain right after post op for about 4-5 days. I'm not big on drugs so I didn't really take the pain meds. GL

If you have meds, take them. Move around as much as possible, walk through the house, don't just sit or stay in bed. The gas can build up and it is killer. FOLLOW THE DOCS INSTRUCTIONS! Sip your Water slowly, it takes a long time at first to get them down but your body needs it to heal. Congrats and good luck.

thanks everyone!!! Day-3 post op is a little better than day-2 (thank God). I've been taking the liquid tylenol w/ codeine but bcuz I know its a habit forming drug I really only take it when needed. I'm not big on pain meds either. Oh and the gas is the worst part. I went to the movies last night and was so embarrassed my stomach kept going off like a grenade!! Who knew LOL

I was in some pain and I took liquid Vicodin, that put the ca-bash on just about any feeling =) The BEST thing for the pain though is walking, most of my pain was gas related. An hour after surgery I walked a mile through the halls at the hospital. Keep walking and burping... it WILL pass.

I agree - the best thing for pain is walking. Sometimes I had to walk with ;)my arms up - a pretty funny sight - so I reserved that move for the house.

But walk, walk, walk. The gas will rise and dissapate. It may take

about two weeks for it all to be gone, but it decreases a lot daily - so have

patience. I took drugs only one day, because I have a tendency to throw up

when I take them - not a good thing. Anyway. BNest of luck to you,

remember, it might be painful right now, but there is an end to it. Any

your journey is going to be fantastic!

You are not alone. I am almost 3 weeks post op and still in a little pain. It is much better but in the beginning I felt horrible. I also had a hernia repair and so maybe that's why I was in such pain. I walked until my back and hips hurt, now its mainly my back and upper right side. Hoping to heal soon. Don't get discouraged, although at this point it is easy to do. Hope you feel better soon!

You are not alone. I'm 10 days post op and i still have a little pain. The first 3 days I was taking the liquid hydrocodone to stay ahead of the pain. Advil now does the trick. My doctor told me to walk for 5 minutes every hour once i left the surgery center. This helped a lot. I also took the gas-x dissolving strips. Those were wonderful and they taste good. lol.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
