Has anyone cheated during the pre op diet????

Recommended Posts

Oh...and I have found another good way to cheat is just chew the food and spit it out...sounds gross...but sometimes I crave the texture of the food and it curbs my craving.

My surgery was Aug 22, so I am 4 days post, and I have to admit I cheated a lot..... I didnt follow much of a diet other than the day before clear liquid..... Mentally it was like I needed to eat all my favorites like as if I wouldnt be able to anymore...... stupid, but I did.... nothing crazy, more like I just continued my normal diet (which was obviously not the best)........... havent experienced any drawbacks just yet, but that also may explain my rapid weight loss this first week..... 11 lbs so far.....

It's been rough. I've been on chicken broth, 3 low fat yogurts, 2 Protein Shakes and 2 cups of fruit a day. I've cheated at work. I'm a nurse and i got hypoglycemic one night and our NP made me eat six goldfish crackers and half a fun sized Nestle Crunch and I was much better. So every night half way through my shift I eat the goldfish and fun size candy bar between my yogurt and broth. I know it's not a huge cheat, but dang I feel guilty for doing that. I've lost 22 pounds in 8 days, I keep comparing myself to my brother and uncle's pre op losses and get down, but I know they were both heavier and are male so their bodies metabolize differently. Wow, I'm rambling..must be nervous for Monday!

I'm so glad I found this website/post! I am on day four of Optifast and I have cheated every single day. I take a bite of my son's dinner when I am making it....I EVEN ATE SOME OF THE SPAGHETTI COLD I WAS SO HUNGRY!! I did bite into a chicken finger last night, chewed and spit it out. I have had my coffee in the moring. It was just too much for me. No caffeine and no food all at once.....I felt miserable on day two. I had to go into an empty office at work and close the door to take a nap. Even someone said I sounded wore out. I am frustrated...it's not that the Optifast is that bad or anything, I am just bored with it and I still have 10 days to go. Ugh......I am just ready to get the surgery and get on with it........

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
