I had my lap band surgery 3 months ago. I've had 2 fills since surgery. I still feel like I can eat almost anything. I've only lost 10 lbs (I know that's better than nothing), but I was hoping by now I could have lost 20 lbs. I have no energy & no ambition to do anything. Also how do you eat healthy on a very limited income?? As bad as I want to be thin why is it so hard to get motivated to do that?? Any suggestions please send them my way

Hello, I had my surgery March 2nd and may have lost 20 lbs total! I have had 4 fills and although I am "tight", I can still eat things that aren't good for me. I'm as frustrated, but I had a different concept of how this works. I didn't realize we have to diet so much along with it for it to work. Had I known, I wouldn't have done it...Weight Watchers would have been cheaper lol I hope you find what works for you soon!!

Pleae keep on keeping on. I've seem this work in lots of people. Won't it be great when you get to your goal weight - and you will. Eat lots of Protein first for every meal. Drink Protein Shakes for Breakfast or a couple of scrabbled eggs. Don't drink anything for an hour after you eat. Then drink Water like crazy. Don't snack. Get rid of everything like that in your house. It will work. Keep on trying. You can do it.

Thanks & I just need to have more will power. I need to get into a routine & stick with it. Hopefully that will be easier when my kids start going to school.

I'm a lot like you, my weight has come off very slowly and I always crave foods I shouldn't. When I talked to my doctor about he told me that everyone is different and everyone loses weight at their own pace. You have to do what is best for you. I'm a college student, so ya I can't necessarily always afford to buy some of the healthier foods that I should be eating and I sometimes don't have a choice but to eat what's not healthy. What has helped me is 2 things: one is that I've accepted I may not always have healthy options available to me, so instead of worrying about what I'm eating I worry more about how much of it I'm eating. If I'm ordering food that isn't necessarily good for me then I order the half portion, or the smallest amount I can order so that my options of how much I eat are automatically limited. It makes me happy eating the food that I love, but I still lose weight slowly but surely. My grandmother has a saying that everything can be ok in moderation and I've found that to be very helpful. So try just focusing on portion sizes to start with...you'll be surprised how that alone can make a huge difference in your calorie intake. (Not to mention that your band does stop you from eating too much to begin with, but still.)

The second thing that has been helpful to me was to tell one of my friends about what I did and how I need to eat better. Between the two of us a couple times a week we buy the ingredients to make a good healthy meal. I may not be eating healthy meals for every single meal of the week, but at least these couple times a week I know I'm getting Protein and nutrients. And by sharing it with a friend I save some money and get to enjoy my friend's company so my healthy times of the week become something I look forward too.

I realize that what I've been doing may not be following the instructions we are given, but this is what works for me and what has kept me going. I may not be rapidly losing weight, but I'm ok with going at it slow and steady. And I do find that the more inches that come off the more motivated I am to keep going and how happy I am that I did the surgery.

I was just banded August 2nd, and while I hear the struggles you are saying you are having, I can't help but ask if you are tracking what you are taking in. I was given the instructions to write down everything I eat...I use an app on my android phone that can also track my weight and exercise. I use a different app to track my Protein intake. The Protein intake is so important so you lose fat and not muscle mass. It is also more filling. I was given instructions to eat my protein first (even though I'm on the heavier liquid portion of the beginning diet). I have several things like applesauce that I could grab and eat, but it has no protein and while it is no added sugar, it is still calories that add to my day and if I don't burn them off...they become added weight. I'm not to the working out portion of the program yet, but after my appointment on the 24th, I hope my surgeon tells me I can exercise. I will use our treadmill to walk on as exercise until I build up my endurance and then I will add some light weight work to help build my muscle.

As far as getting motivated...it helps to have someone to discuss it with whether or not they are going through it too. Yes, the "health" food can be expensive, but if you are not continuing to buy the other types of food too, it should even out. Even though we have a college aged daughter living at home, we continue to buy the food that is good for us (my husband had the lapband done the same day I did). She is getting in better shape by eating healthier, too. She is in training while playing soccer so she is eating food to fuel her body.

My take on having such a dramatic procedure done (after researching everything to do with it) was to begin to look at food in a different way. It isn't a social outlet, it isn't for fun, it isn't because it tastes good...like society would have us believe by the commercials we are inundated with on a daily basis. Food is to fuel our bodies so our bodies will have what they need to survive. They need protein, they need veggies, they need Vitamins...I used to think mine NEEDED powdered sugar donuts, but I was wrong! ;) It as much a mental process as it is a physical process. We have to retrain our brains that food is fuel. Also, staying hydrated is as important and the food you eat. I'm not completely there, but I think I'm in the right place mentally. It's not an easy place to get or to stay...you just have to be mentally stronger than your will to eat the things you used to eat.

This can be very simple for you. The key is in getting your Water, it flushes. Next eat the food you family does, when you can, but smaller portions. Stay away from the sweet stuff, even tea and coffee, I lived on chicken, tuna, deli meat and cheese, Veggie of choice was broccoli quick simple and preped in small amounts, Mornings I'm tight and have a slimfast shake or Protein. With thees I can add some fruit or yogurt. If you can eat the guideline amounts the food bill goes down just like the scale. I am lucky because I can eat most everything, so I have to get back to watching my portions. I am limited with income as well, but there are things we will usually have for the family eggs,,good source of Protein. My pride in joy is my George Forman Grill, Tomato sauce, garlic and onions, shrimp, chicken and stir fry meat are the weekly fair at my house.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
