I was just wondering how long it takes to get everything done...from first doctors appointment until the actual surgery.

I have my first appointment on Sept 1st and have Tricare Prime. Is it possible it get all of it completed in 2 months?

My first appointment was April 7th -surgery was on May 25th. That was really quick! They will schedule you for surgery right then (at least that's what they did for me). I was given a date for the end of June, but they said if I could get all my tests done I had a chance to move it up. Had all my tests completed and they had a spot available. I am not usre if you are in a hurry-but if so, commit right then and there at the appointment so you can get a date. If you should change your mind you can always cancel. Next, line up all your doctor's appointments - call them right away because sometimes there is a long wait to see the docs.

Good luck!

Yeah I have been noticing that most people complete the process anywhere from 1&1/2 to 4 months. Hopefully that will be what happens in my case. My husband and I are scheduled to go on leave on November 3rd back to Texas to see our families for a month. I really wanted to have it done before I go.

Is it crazy to do that?

I went to the seminar at the beginning of April and am scheduled for surgery on August 17th. It could have been earlier, but I didn't realize that I needed to write down all of my food intake until I met with the nurtritionist, which was a couple weeks after I met with the doctor. My insurance required it.

So, 4.5 months. But I didn't see the doctor until the end of April, so it is really more like 3.5 months.

Good luck!

I guess it depends on the doctor and insurance company. My insurance approved me right away, only had to show 5yrs of obesity in my medical history. But I had to be smoke free for 90 days before my doctor would see me!!! Because of that I went to my seminar in September, first doctor appt was March 3rd and surgery was July 28th...almost 10 months..but it was worth it. I learned a lot about myself and how I got this way so it can all be fixed and not just the weight be fixed. Good luck and take your time, it all happens for a reason!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
