I am getting banded in 2 weeks, and the only thing I'm nervous about is that I might have to give up beer. I haven't really talked it over with the doctor yet. Are there any beer lovers out there who have some insight?

Most lapband doctors are going to tell you to give up carbonation.

Are there any people that have tried drinking beer after being banded? i understand the doctor will tell me to give up carbonation...but some people drink small amounts of soda. Any thoughts?

If beer is something you can't give up then u shouldn't be banded. Most doctors say no carbonation as it can cause the band to slip and also beer has a lot of calories and sodium. I used to drink beer and vodka with diet coke. I haven't had or even bothered to try any carbonation since before my surgery in may 2010. You really need to talk to your doctor about their specific requirements though.

I'm addicted to Diet Pepsi and I'm giving it up starting now - even though my surgery won't be for months. I don't want to be completely miserable afterwards.

Good bye Dos XX, hello thinner me! Small price to pay for what we will achieve with the band!

My doctor says carbonation is ok as long as you can tolerate it, but wouldn't want me to drink the empty calories.

my doctor said no carbonated drinks for 6 months after band and then maybe 1 every two weeks. I prob wont even do that, good thing i don't care too much for beer. :D I've always like the harder drinks.

Your choice of not getting the band is because you dont want to give up beer? Beer is wasted calories and you dont need it to live. However being over weight and drinking is putting you closer to your grave. I dont think that giving up beer is too much to ask for health

I was banded July 28 and gave up beer two weeks prior while doing the pre-op diet. Ain't gonna lie - I miss it. But I have committed to no beer till Super Bowl, and at that point I'll try it and see how it goes.

Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
