I'm so excited!

Recommended Posts

I posted this in another thread but I think it deserves its own. I received a letter today from the National Marrow Donor Program telling me that I may be a match for a patient awaiting a transplant. I've been on the registry since 1995 and never been called on. I am so excited about the possibility of doing this. I've wanted to for so long. The more I think about it the more I think that everything happens for a reason. Maybe, after years of wanting to have lapband surgery I finally was able to do so so that I would be healthy enough to possibly save another life. I doubt that they would have accepted me before. I've never been terribly religious, but maybe the G_ds smiled down and said lets make this one healthy so she can save that one. Anyway, I don't know why it's happening now but I'm so stoked!

I am also a match for someone. I was notified (3) months ago. Currently the patient isn't well enough to undergo the transplant. I pray they found me in time and that she can gain enough strength so I can help her.

Thank you ladies for being part of the registry. I worked in pediatric bone marrow transplant for 3 years and now my research focuses mainly on finding new drugs for childhood leukemia and lymphoma patients. We do have a transplant protocol and I recently had a leukemia patient who had a donor who backed out at the last minute. It was devastating for the family and the little boy.

Thank you for being willing to share a part of yourselves with a stranger.

How exciting. And yes, things have a way of working out sometimes, don't they.

And like jen120 said, thanks for being a donor :)

That is awesome...my childhood friend's son was diagnosed with a rare type of leukemia in Dec. He was 16 months at the time. He went into remission in Jan (on my birthday), but the fear of it coming back was high on the doctors' minds. He had a bone marrow transplant in May courtesy of his 3 year old sister! He is doing well and his 100th day is coming up where he will finally be able to interact with groups of people! It's hard to conain a now 2 year old! I think this is amazing and thank you for what you are doing!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
