Do periods really affect weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Is this fact or fiction? I havnt lost anything for a few weeks, but on period. Do people normally time out during their period? I appreciate your input.

For myself and maybe for others, I seem to retain Water during my cycle. After its over I go back to my original weight. I know there are meds to relieve the bloating, but its only a temporary thing, so try not to panic when you see a lil weight gain at that time.

I really think it depends on the individual. I have been banded for about 5 weeks now, and of that time, I have had about 3 weeks of period, yet I still lost weight. I imagine that a lot does have to do with bloating as the previous poster mentioned. So, if you are one who tends to bloat, expect that during your period things could be slower. Good luck!

Oh boy... I've been banded since 5.5.11, so, about 2 periods since then. First one.. didn't notice much. Second one, I was up to 7ccs and oh my god... did it get tight! My weight loss stopped for about a week or so... but ya... I was super tight and had to be extra careful. Once it was over, things went back to normal.

I tend to gain a couple pounds just before my period, and I can eat like a horse! During my period, my band is sometimes so tight I can only get liquids down. Afterwards, the weight always drops off and I go back to normal restriction. Sometimes the post-period weight loss includes a couple bonus pounds! :)

I've been tracking for 10 months, and I ALWAYS lose 2-4 lbs at the onset of my period. Every month, without fail. I can't explain why I lose when other people stall or gain, but I won't look that gift horse in the mouth.

My period never affected my weight loss but, boy, did my weight loss affect my periods!! They got so screwed up that I ended up having to have Endometrial Ablation to get them to stop. I haven't had one now for over 2 years.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
