My surgery was June 16th, so I am 5 weeks, 3 days post-op. I've lost 27.4 lbs since June 6th when I started my pre-op diet (20.4 since surgery day). I haven't taken measurements but I can tell my clothes are looser. I am pleased with the progress so far. (Start weight on pre-op diet day 307.0, weight on surgery day 300.2, today's weight 279.8.)

I am doing about 35 min on the treadmill 3x/week, and soon will start some strength training. I've been a little inconsistent about working out due to travel, work, kids, and lack of motivation some days. In addition to trying to get my health back on track, I am also trying to do well with my finances, too, and I figure since I'm paying $35.99/mo for this gym membership I need to make the most of it! So that's adding to my motivation to work out now :)

My weight has yo-yo'd up and down since 2008, so I've been around the same weight I am now for the past 4 summers (I was either on my way up or on my way down...lol). Because of that, I don't feel as excited by my progress as I will once I have lost about 20 more pounds. 256.4 is the lowest weight I've made it to in probably about the last 14 years - I hit that weight in 2008 and it lasted about 32 seconds lol. Can't wait to visit the 250s again but I don't plan to stay there long :)

You're making great progress! It's especially hard to get in exercise when you're traveling so you're really doing a good job with that. Keep up the good work!

Hi all from Moreno Valley, CA. Had my surgery on June 21st and I'm doing well. Have lost about 15 pounds since surgery, and 10 pounds since the end of April. I can tell the diff. in the way my clothes fit. Only problem I had was about 3 weeks after my surgery I got this terrible pain just below the port area. It was so bad I thought I'd have my husband take me to the hospital, but thought I'd be so embarassed if it was gas, I stayed home and cried. It bothered me for 2 days before I saw my lap band doctor and he said it was a muscle spasm or pulled muscle, and said it had nothing to do with my port. I went home and held a pillow to my stomach for a week, than made an appointment with my PCP , and 2 hours after I called their office, it went away! I have felt fine ever since. It did feel better if I wore something tight. Anyone else have this sort of pain?

Also, I am at the point were I can eat solids, but find myself kind of afraid to. I have read that so many have had problems with being "stuck". Any food I have tried, I chew it so much there is nothing left to swallow! Good thing I love my Protein Shakes. Good luck to all those who have lost weight so far. Everyone I have encountered so far from this site have been wonderful about answering my questions. Thank you.

My surgery was done on June 24th 2011 and so far I am down 22 lbs. I am scheduled for my first fill on August 5th. I am ready for a fill already. I have been eating food that are crumbly since a week after my surgery. My weight weight loss has come to a standstill. I have been able to eat more at one time before feeling full, but today I had my first real obstruction. I ate a few bites of some pork that was in BBQ Sauce. I thought that it was moist enough. I have had pork before since my band and it went down fine. This time I had bad pains for about a minute. I tried sipping on some Water to help it go through, and it all came back up. It was a weird feeling. I am still learning how to live with my new tool.

hello from PA I was banded June 23rd and am down 16 lbs so far. I get my first fill next friday for 5 cc's. I have the 11 cc Realize band. I have been doing good so far starting to notice a difference in my sizes. I am pleased with the 16 lb loss in a month. My soreness from the surgery has finally left. I was incredibly sore at the port site but that is gone now. Looking forward to learning about you all and following this journey with you!

Hi Everyone:

I had my surgery on June 17. I am down about 23 pounds from where I started. I will not get my first fill until August 31 and am at a standstill with my weightloss. However, I continue to work out religiously and watch what I eat. I remember reading a post where a person was asking the poster, "Are you tummy hungry, or head hungry?" I try to ask myself that question when I feel like munching. I believe all of my internal swelling has disappeared as I am now able to eat larger portions than when I was first banded...I guess "the honeymoon" stage is over.

I have had no problems with my band and am so happy I chose this as my tool to help me reach my healthy goal!:D

I had my second fill a week ago. Down another 2 pounds this week. Still working to get to my "sweet spot". I think I might actually be filled too much right now. I'm having problems getting my Protein down, getting stuck.

So glad to find this group. I was banded June 21 (my anniversary!) My top weight was 285 over a year ago. I was 270 the day before my surgery. I weighed in this AM at 252. I was on a plateau for a good 2 weeks and just a couple days ago started down again.

I had my 1st fill (4cc) July 13, when I went in for infected surgical sites. They checked me over and determined I was allergic to the dissolvable stitches! A 10 day stint of antibiotics cleared that up. But since I was there, they decided to do a fill. My next fill is scheduled for this coming Weds (8/3).

So far I'm doing pretty good. Got discouraged during the plateau. Even the fill didn't help. I was very careful with what I ate and only had one instance of getting stuck. Not pretty. No vomiting but a whole lot of slime. I've been much more careful since not to eat dry chicken, and chew, chew, chew!

I had a colonoscopy Monday and the one thing that was bothering me seems to have cleared up - I was used to a daily BM and struggled with Constipation after banding :(. Maybe it's my age (56) and arthritis issues that limit my mobility (though this has improved. Mobility, that is, not age - LOL!)

Anybody relate?

Hugs to all!

wow, HELLO fellow June 2011 bandsters. I was banded on June 30th. I started at 220# the beginning of my journey in Jan. 2010. Had to lose 10% weight by march 2011. At that time I was 208#. Gained back up to 215# waiting for insurance to approve. Surgery date set and weight was back down to a 206#. Surgery date weight was 204#. Two days after surgery I was 210# and now I am 189#.

I have stopped losing weight due to relapse into old eating habits. I've been at 189# for two months now. I am working with an eating behavioralist to get "back on track" with my meals. I am at three fills and feeling some restriction. I am sure that one more fill will put me in the green zone. I know that I will start losing again in the next month as my behavioralist is aggressive in her therapy. So happy she is non judgemental, I judge myself enough lately.

So I am married with four children, boy 21, boy 18, girl 15, step son 11 and boy 3. Also have a grand daughter 8 months. I live in Minnesota but my heart is warm and sunny in Miami. It would be nice to hear from more June 2011 bandsters. and updates on you goals and weight loss. I need some inspiration.

Also anyone see the movie Corageous?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
