Are your fills done under Fluoroscopy, or Standard way?

Recommended Posts

My Dr does Fluoro (not sure if he will allow it standard only, I'm sure he would) but I was happy with it. He watched me do a barium swallow. He does NOT numb it and it doesn't hurt that bad. It is a pretty decent pinch but the pain goes away really quick.

My doc used to use an ltrasound machine for my fills because my port likes to play marco polo.

How my port is really good at this game and we must use an xray machine to find it ( I do believe this isnt what u call flouro because we never see my stomach just my port).

Also I get the numbing needle. At first it was because I was freaked out by the pain that never happened but now with my port under my muscles I really need it.

My first fill was done under flouro, basicly to see if something was there lol, after I received the bill, 2nd 3rd and 4th fills have all been done in his office, and he numbs the site, on top of that I have some lidoderm Patches that I stick on 1 hour before, so I feel absoultly nothing, and for the times that he has to dig around.....dig away lol

I had mine done the standard way until a couple of months ago, and I think the fluro is so much better! I love being able to see what's going on. I have been banded for a year and a half and I had a couple of episodes and was having problems so after going in and being able to see, they corrected the problem and now it is all better.:D

My doctor does fluoro and a barium swallow. I haven't had my first fill yet, but I'm glad he does it the way he does--I suspect it will soothe my inner control freak to be able to see what's going on.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
