Day one with the lap band

Recommended Posts

SO I'm officially banded!! Not feeling to hott at all I feel so full from even the slightest amount of Water... Which I've only been allowed 30ml (medicine cup) of Water one time per hour. I did just go for the Xray and the barium swallow and had to drink the contrast an I'm feelig like I have to throw up. I'm getting zofran and not vicodin instead of iv morphine. I'm more sore than in actual pain. My surgeon said that everything went well and it was a 2 hour procedure with a hiatal hernia repair. I think maybe day 4 an I'll feel a bunch better and getting home in my own environment will be great!

If anyone had questions or thinks they know apmthog that will help with the first few days please feel free

Congratulations. I was banded on Monday and came home yesterday. Feeling ok but imbarassingly I have bad gas, I think this is normal. Feeling much better. On day 1 I got totally overwhelmed by my decision and what was in the future for me. I feel better now and I am excited about what is ahead. Plus just through fasting and surgery I have dropped about 5-6 kilos which made the pain a little easier to bear. I am sure lots of that is just Fluid loss! Good luck with everything, I am in Australia, where are you from?

It's day three and I'm so sick and sick to my stomach I can barley tollerate the liquid diet. I'm getting overwhelmed and wondering myself if this is the right decision. I'm from the USA.. Good luck to all bangers!

Best of Luck to you! I was banded June 30th and it took me a full 2-weeks to feel normal. I had a lot of nausea, which was horrible and made me regret my decision. Now that I'm feeling much better, the regret has also past.

Well I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's going/ went through this. I just started drinking Protein Shakes I'm just thinking about the outcome and I know it will be worth it!

Today is day 3 for me and I still feel like crap...my abdomen is still sore and the gas is very uncomfortable..I spoke to a wise 21 yr. old today (my son) and he tells me...a few days of discomfort in order to get rid of a lifetime of obesity....hmmm...u can do it! lol guess I did pretty good with that one ;)

I had to have hernia repair surgery with my band too and after 6 days I'm finding the swelling of my stomach still quite hard to get liquids down. I'm just taking it slow and trying to sip as much as possible. I haven't taken any pain medicine in about 2 days, but I'm still a bit nauseous. I hope you are feeling better each day, and I'm glad that I have someone to talk to with a similar surgery now :)

Glad to hear our reservations are normal. I had a bad afternoon yesterday, should have taken some pain meds but didn't, probably the low point since coming home. Had some yoghurt this morning thinned out with milk, it was really nice. I have just been having Protein shakes and milk until this morning. Only put 3/4 cup in the bowl and then added milk and still couldn't eat it all. I think I am scared of having too much.

Lots of strange burping/gurgling sensations after I eat. A fair bit of bruising is coming out now and I woke up a bit sore around the main wound. I have noticed that eating liquids only is really challenging my past habits. I guess it a brillant way to break them!

I hope you feel better today. I have booked a family holiday for Christmas time and when I feel a bit down I think about how I am going to look by then and why this discomfort is worth it.

Good luck for the day ahead!

To all of you who had your surgeries in the past few days...make sure you are drinking lots of Water. Even if it makes you sick to your stomach, get in as much as you can. With the heat wave we're having across the country (it was 106 here in Detroit today) added to your recent surgeries it will be so easy for you to become dehydrated. Trust me, you don't want that!

Well I'm at the end of day three and boy do I feel a lot better I just took a hot shower and walked around. I have been drinking all day and although it's not doing the trick I know that I need to do it. I did have a diet sugar free Jello today as well as a popsicle and they were delicious. The gargling sounds have past since I had been moving around and passing gas. Like I had said it's my time of the month and I usually have really bad menstrul cycles and I think just having that on top of all this is not helping the situation at all. I've ha numerous family member call and see how I'm doing which is nice to hear when I'm feeling down!!

@Jmj good for you for booking your vacation and yes I agree with you thinking about the way you will look supersedes how you feel at this very moment. I am getting married next October and all I can think of is how great I will look in my wedding dress!!

Thank you for everyone who has wrote here today I can't tell you how much it means to me to have others in the same situation and who can talk about what's goig on!!

Just think tomorrows a new day

I was just banded on July 18 in Mexico, and its now day 6, and my belly still feels really tender. It is swollen, and takes great effort to roll over in the bed at night. I was amazed that there are 5 small incisions. I somehow expected only 3. Oh, well.

I had been forewarned about the gas, and brought two boxes of gas-ex, which has worked pretty well.

I'm dismayed that when I weighed myself this morning at home, I had actually GAINED weight (from the previous week!) However, others on this forum told me that this is not uncommon, and just persist. It does feel like my body is betraying me. . . . . How can I eat nothing for an entire week, and actually gain weight?

Onward!

Polly

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
