Stress and Banding

Recommended Posts

I am 10 months in to my banding and have done well, I think. To date, I have lost 82 lbs!! However, I am extremely sensitive to fills. I had a fill in the beginning of June, and did well but did have some episodes if I ate or drank to quickly. Since that fill, I have had a lot of stressfull situations come up and notice I really could not keep anything down except liquids. I went to my dr on Friday and had some Fluid removed and was able to drink Water before I left. This weekend, I have had problems keeping foods down and i feel like my stomach is irritated. I think I really need do some more homework on life and eating after banding. But until then, does anyone have any ideas that may help. I am thinking I need to start fresh with a liquid diet and go from there but not sure. Has anyone had issues like this before?

I have been banded for 9 months, and 3 mo this ago I was in a car accident with my family. It was a very stressful situation for a while, and I had to get a small unfill because the stress had caused the bad to get much tighter. After I was able to get passed the major stress of the accident, I was able to get the same amount back in of .2cc. It only took that small amount to make a difference big enough to keep loosing and stay satisfied.

OMG, I was also in a car accident almost one month to the day after my surgery! I was under lots of stress and had nothing in my band but it was extremely tight. My primary care physician gave me .25mg of xanax and it really relaxed me, I didn't realize it until much later but I could eat anything!!!!

I recently came under more stress and my band became super tight again, now I meditate and it does help!!!

Good luck,

Joleen

I have also noticed that my band gets tight while working and being stressed out, most of the time i barely notice it is in there, but add stress and I can feel the tightness and know exactly where the band is sitting...my doctor is curious to see if working out during this tightness during stress episodes would be helped by going to the gym or if it would make me nauseous and sick...i havent been stressed before going to the gym yet in order to test his theory out....but i am hoping if anything that working out would help the tightness go away.

It has been a little over two years since I have had my surgery and I still have difficulty with eating and drinking when I am stressed out. I was really glad to see that I am not the only person that faces this problem. I have since had some Fluid removed in order to help me at least be able to get fluids in but still have problems when I am stressed. The only thing that I have found that works is trying to decompress and do the best to take the stress out of my life. When I am able to calm myself down and relax I find that I am able to eat and drink with no problem. Good Luck!

I have to say this concerns me. I am a positive person but there are definite periods of stress in my life and I'm wondering if when I have the band placed I will have this problem as well.

First of all, congrats on your journey and weight loss :) and second, yes, stress can definitely affect your band. but everyone is different. but in my case, i have always suffered from anxiety/panic attacks when under stress, and when that happens, i cannot eat anything. i have been banded almost a year now, and have done it all with only 3.7cc's, have not had a fill since last December solely due to that factor. but as i said, everyone is different and i would talk to your doc about it :) best of luck!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
