Had surgery 6/29 and have no restriction

Recommended Posts

Fran and the others are right! I was banded on 6/24 and today is one of those days where I feel like I'm just on another diet and so what the heck did I get the band for! And I'm hungry! There are days like that. I am on the mush stage, after 2 weeks of Soup and shakes, and there is a lot more variety now. But I too thought I would 'feel' more after getting the band. Now I realize, thanks to this Forum, that it won't really happen until I get filled. You are worth it. Don't sabotage, just hang in there and believe in yourself and the process! We are all in this together!

You are soooooo wright ! Keep up the research it helps, and before you know it,,,, fills will start.

Don't expect a Miracle though. This depends on your Dr.. Some people need about 3 fills to really feel restriction, and some get filled under Fluoroscopy, where they fill you to your fill line, and done ! Until your stomach shrinks from weight loss, and you need a little fill to keep you going.

Keep up the Real Good Work,,, Shirley.

One way that I have avoided the 'yucky' Protein shakes is to make really delicious smoothies with Protein Powder (vanilla flavored).

The powder I use is 110 calories per scoop, so I throw in a scoop, a banana (110 calories), some yogurt (the kind I use has 80 calories per 1/2 cup), some sugar free strawberry jam (10 calories per tbsp), and blend it up with some ice, and it's like having a milkshake!

I drink half of it for a meal, and 1/2 of it for another meal. It's yummy and doesn't taste like the yucky prepackaged Protein Shakes.

I like 1/2 cup of vanilla Lite Soymilk, a Carnation Instant Breakfast and Ice! chocolate shake! Sometimes I add a half of a Starbucks Caramel Via....yummmmmm!

SOOO GLAD I AM NOT ALONE!!!!!!!

I had my surgery 6/28 and I've been eating so many foods the past few days that I didn't think I'd be able to eat. I've been having mac and cheese, other pastas, pretzels, crackers..... etc. I'm on the mushy stage and Pasta is listed for me to eat and unfortunately it tastes so good I have it everyday now. I have been eating more than I thought I'd be able to eat. I've been depressed with seeing a 5 lb gain since I've been adding in the other carb mushies. I also get my fill the same day as you. Aug. 9th and I agree it seems toooooo far away. So that is another thing we have in common. Today I've had a half of Protein drink, some pirates booty Snacks and a frozen baked ziti entree'. I wish I had some stronger will power right now to choose healthier options. I think I'm running with the fact that my sheet says I can have Pasta so I'm making sure I do. I know I need to add in more Protein choices, like cottage cheese and more protein drinks. I think I've been "so hungry" that I'm almost running with things celebrating that I'm allowed to eat again even though I know I need to be careful. I didn't realize that I'd be this hungry and able to eat this much already. I had my surgery in Mexico so it's not like I have great follow up care to find out all this information. I told myself last night that just because I can eat pasta and pretzels and crackers doesn't mean I should... well what do I do? I wake up and eat carbs. It's hard... really really hard. Just wanted you to know you are NOT alone. :)

i was glad to see your post. gained 2 lbs today and was so bummed out.

Hi all,

I had my surgery on 6/29 with little to no problems thanks to God. My problem is now that I am tired of the pureed/liquid diet and have been eating solids for the past week. I know I shouldn't be doing this as it can cause problems for me but I just gag at the sight of Protein shakes and Soups. I need real food in my body. At first I felt restriction and didn't eat quite as much as I used to, but now that I am used to it I feel that I can eat as much as I did before. I am a little depressed because I don't feel like I am losing anymore. I checked on the scale and think I have actually gained a couple of lbs. I know I should focus on weight loss at this time because I am still recovering but I am. I wanted to hold off on the fill and try to do it without it, but I really need it. I am scheduled on the 9th of August to get my first fill but feel that it's too far away.

I feel the same way! I had surgery on 7/07 and only lost 3 pounds in a week. My surgeon was not happy with me. I really didn't eat too much. I am wondering if my metabolism is shot.

Wow. My surgeon will not allow me to eat carbohydrates like Pasta. I am supposed to have less than 30 grams a day. It sucks. Carbs are in everything.

I think my surgeon felt the same way too. On my pre-op diet I only lost 3 lbs but of course I was only on it for 3 days. Then I had my post op appt and was only down a total of 6 lbs. My scale at home said about 12lbs, which I was so happy about. Once I stepped on his scale my happiness faded. But as I drove home from the doctors office I thought about the 6lb loss and found it to be a victory as 6lbs in 1 week was awesome! Now only if I can keep up with this diet before I gain too much.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
