period right after band?!?!

Recommended Posts

So I started my period the day after surgery but I wasn't due for another two weeks. Any ideas?

My period was also "off-schedule" after surgery. I just assumed that it was due to the stress from the surgery on my body--but really don't know for sure if that was the reason or not. Good luck to you!

I rarely have periods and mine started after surgery also and lasted for like 3 weeks. My ob/gyn said it was probably due to the weight loss.

Three periods in the first six weeks after my surgery! Now back to normal. It's a major trauma we put our bodies through so it's not surprising.

I started a week early about a week post op as well. For the first 4 or 5 periods after surgery they were awful!!! Heavy and terrible cramps, I told myself that if it happened one more month I was going to call my gyn, and the next month it was back to normal. I remembered to ask my surgeon's nurse about it last month at my monthly appointment and she said it is usually due to the fact that your body has to adjust the amount of hormones you are producing. It is used to producing hormones for, in my case, a 244 pound person, so it takes time to adjust and your periods can be abnormal for quite awhile until you are at a steady weight. Good luck on your journey :)

My pre-op nurse said that my cycle would be off for a while. Luckily I just finished my TOM so I should be ok for a couple of weeks. Good luck ladies, make sure you're using BC.

Question.. were any of you ladies on BC before/during the surgery? I am taking Yazmin and I am hoping I will be able to maintain a somewhat regular schedule after my surgery next week but I guess you never know!

mine came early the day before surgery. What a pain that was. A little nervous for the first one after.

I was always irregular and started like clockwork after surgery. After the hundreds of posts and a year of researching the band, my surgeon finally told me after surgery (when I asked at my follow up) that the band CAN affect your hormones. I had not read that ANYWHERE! Wouldn't you know I was banded June of 2011, I'm now almost 5 1/2 months pregnant. Thanks Lap Band! :-)

I honestly wasn't sure if my husband and I could have children but it was truly a blessing. Am anxious to jump back on the wagon but for now, I'm focusing on the baby.

I just had banded plication surgery on January 12th. I am on Cryselle birthcontrol, skipping the placebo pills each month (and taking them every 3 months so that I have a period every 3 months).

The week before the surgery, when I was on my liquid diet, I started my period, even though I was not on placebo pills. Considering the drastic diet change, I wasn't surprised.

I had my period during the surgery, and after. However, after the surgery, my bleeding was very, very heavy and full of large clots. At first I was worried - the last time this happened to me, I had fibroid cysts that had to be removed. But, after a little research, I'm fairly certain that the high doses of acetametaphin (found in the post-op pain meds Hydrocodone), along with the shot of Heparin pre-op (to prevent blood clots), and the addition of the post-op antibiotics interfered with the birth control, and caused the unusual bleeding.

As I'm weening off the pain meds, and finishing the antibiotics, I'm noticing a significant decrease in the bleeding. I have also doubled up on my birth control pills (I've had to do this in the past for heavy bleeding at the doctor's request). I have a post-op check up with my doctor on Friday, and I plan to bring this up to him if it continues.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
