Hi Everyone,

I was banded Thursday (7/14/11) so I guess I'm 3 days out. Stayed overnight in the hospital - standard procedure for my surgeon. I'm doing well, except for the left shoulder pain. The only time it goes away is when I'm flat on my back. :( Hoping this really doesn't last too long. Having to remind myself to eat something is such a strange feeling. Don't think I've EVER had to do that before in my life!

Hey everyone,

After having my little mental breakdown at the end of last week, I can say I am feeling better at this point. I have my recheck on the 20th, and am looking forward to mushies.......I can't believe I said that! ;)

Thanks for the support everyone!

Hi all,

I just had surgery on July 14. I do feel really tired and my stomache hurts. I am starving. I have been doing chicken broth, Water, Protein and popsicles and my stomache growls constantly. I also burp alot after drinking. I stick to 1oz at a time. I have lost almost 11 pounds. Which is due to not eating anything for the last five days.

Is it normal to be this hungry? I also can't wait to start cottage cheese, refried Beans and yogurt on day 6. I am counting down!

Hi, I am three days out and feel the same as you! I can't really do much and I have a lot of stomache rumbling! I am so hungry! Any suggestions?

Well I did and everything went well, Im able to drink without a problem but i am very weak and dizzy and am only able to sit up for an hour or two and then have to lay down, anyone else have his problem? I really want to get up and moving.

I'm eating a lot! 1/4 cup of food? No, no way. Try 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups. Trying to stick to mushies but not enough. Anyone else hungry?

I was always hungry, but I knocked off the mashed potatoes and high carb stuff, which helped A LOT. I have Protein filled meals (1/2 C) three times a day, and I'm not hungry in between. Just blend up some chicken so it is super duper mushy and see if that helps to tide you over longer. I was miserable for a few days when I was eating mashed potatoes - but try more protein. We're all different, but we've all got to make it to the first fill! We can do it! :)

Wow, you remember my charm bracelet! I've just got the one heart for now, that I will have engraved with the date that I meet my goal weight. Gotta lose 10 lbs before I buy another one.

I agree with everyone else, I am starving! How are we supposed to live on Water and broth for 7 days???? This is insane. I'm calling my nutritionist tomorrow to see if I can move mushies up sooner.

Feeling downright well right now, except for some pain at my incisions when getting up and down. I can't believe I felt so much better only 48 hours after surgery.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I managed to survive my first day back at school (year 12/senior year) and although I was really tired I still made it through in good spirits... Having set lunchtimes actually really helps because it means I can't graze and over eat!

Thanks Amy, will try more chicken at meal time. I really fell off wagon last night when I got home from work at 1 a.m. and ate two small bowls of Cereal. I had the high Protein dinner, I just don't understand! I was losing weight just fine during pre-op and eating foods I normally eat, just in smaller quantities. Ugh... first fill, hurry up!

Well, I overdid it yesterday: food wise and movement wise!

I thought I was feeling so great that I'd go do my Sunday grocery shopping. Well, that was a bad idea! The cart was fine to push when it has empty, but the more full it got, the harder it was to push and I was at the back of the store about to cry. If I didn't have a family to shop for I would have left the cart there and went home. My incisions hurt SO BAD! I finally managed to get the cart to the check out and had my first "carry out" ever. I always felt to guilty to get someone else to take my groceries to the car, but not this time! When I got home, I crawled in bed and slept for 2 hours!

Then, last night, I tried to eat some blended-to-liquid potato Soup. It was so good that Ignored my soft stop signals of sighing and ate a few more bites. Even though I barely ate 1/4 cup, I was miserable for hours! Lesson learned!

I don't know about you, but it is a bit frustrating making yourself stop when it tastes so good. Still, I love my lapband for doing its job!

-- I completely feel you. I'm on day 5 post op and I'm getting headaches from lack of food :( I just keep drinking more and more broth but it only substains for 30 min or so. I'm being good though and sticking ot my thin liquids and dreaming of Wednesday when I move of to thicker liquids!!

Quick question .. is chicken Stock the same as Chicken Broth???? I picked the stock up on accident and wondering if its good to drink like a broth or if its only for cooking.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
