I know some of you are having trouble being hungry. I don't have that so much but I have trouble knowing when to stop eating. I guess I need to measure my food or something because the last two nights I have eaten what I thought was a reasonable amount and been really really full feeling after. I'm worried that I'm going to stretch my pouch out, anyone know if thats something that can happen quickly?

Great news! My nutritionist is going to let me go to mushies on Wednesday, two days early. I can't handle this all liquid diet, I have no restriction and the hunger is just out of control! Bummed I have to wait 6 weeks for my first fill since I'm clearly going to be in bandster hell what with no restriction. Might mean I'm going to lose little weight at first, but I'm not going to starve myself either. If I wanted to/could starve myself I wouldn't have just dropped $13,000 on this band!

Good!! I'm glad you spoke up. Sorry you're having a hard time! You could also trying splitting shakes and drinking them more frequently. That might help a little. G2 was my lifesaver!

Hey ActivityGRRL,

I feel that way too! I feel like I need to lay down in order to get some relief. I am learning that it means I am eating way too much. My nutritionist keeps instilling in me not to eat until I am full, but to just eat small amounts. I can eat every three hours. It was crazy to be on a liquid diet for so long. I literally ate such big bites and savored and then spit it out! Crazy I know but I was soo starved for some food! Just know you are not alone!!

5 days post- op. Back to work.. feeling OK. Have to learn to not drink so fast... i drink my Protein shakes and then i am so full it hurts. I have to remember to take my time.. something i have never done when eating and drinking EVER...didnt realize the pain i was feeling was my full feeling...Is it supposed to be painful? I feel like i have to lay down or stretch out to make it go away.. maybe it's gas,

Yesterday was an ice cream festival.. i went thinking i wasnt going to eat anything.. but i had sherbert,,,,it was not sugarfree,,,but i ate it. Is sugar going to really hurt this process??? I hope not.

My abdomen still hurts. The midline hurts for no apparent reason. Port is in upper right chest.

I haven't lost any weight in a week but I've lost 2 inches off my waist. I'm guessing I'm putting on muscle in my arms and legs. Been walking and doing weights with arms - only light ones though. Don't want big arms. Toned, pretty, non chicken wing arms. What a dream!

Bulking up from weight training is a myth (for women at least). If you want toned arms, you need to gradually increase the weights. Start light but work progressively upwards as your muscle fitness increases, otherwise you're really just wasting energy! =)

Is anyone else getting restriction even though they have no fill?

I'm eating more than I thought I would be able to, but way less than I used and way differently than I used to. Before I started pre-op diet I had a lot of bread, butter, fries, cheese, Pasta, all stuff I can't do now. I tried eating a piece of a tortilla the other day and spit it out. Was proud. Just ate fajitas naked with a little cheese. Big step for me. I've had ice cream twice, child portions, as opposed to a 5 scoop monster with Peanut Butter, whipped cream, heath bar and chocolate fudge. I felt guilty both times! I would have felt hog happy before for managing to demolish such a monster! So I feel some physical restriction but mentally I impose restrictions because I want this to work.

Glad you're feeling better! how are you sleeping? I favor the same side as my port to sleep and it is down right painful.

Ally,

I have restriction at this point. I keep reading about some folks eating out already, or so hungry already and I am thinking something is up with me. not that I am complaining, yet. I am still getting full on 2 ounces of pudding, but get hungry again in an hour or so, but I just ate about 6 ounces of Tomato Soup and it's about to go right through me. I go in for a recheck tomorrow and can go on mushies after that.

Yep - I'm with ya. Yes, I know that physically I can eat a lot of what I did pre-surgery. But why? Yes, I want fries, ice cream, nacho cheese dip and all that useless crap. I had ice cream once, but it wasn't the same. I knew it would go right through the band and right to my butt. I had mac and cheese once, but you know what, I was hungry two hours later. Everything I've been told about carbs and junk food causing hunger earlier is completely true. I just try my best not to eat anything that isn't very nutritious. Emotionally, it is tough. But I didn't shell out all this money to do it half-arse. :) Stay strong!!!!

alrighty guys :) how are ya?

I was banded on July 1...I feel like a NORMAL person again.

I'm hungry.

I am eating mushies...but with a mix of solids a little bit.....hard to explain. Definitely not on solid foods yet and I'm a little scared.

I have restriction with mushier foods....if I eat too fast or don't chew enough. Although the restriction or tight/stuck feeling only lasts for 10 or so seconds and then the food gets through the band or into the pouch i assume.

So...i am trying at this point to

1) AVOID liquid calories...I was hungry saturday and had a Protein shake. Bad idea.

2) Protein first.

3) eat slower

4) chew

The nurse said she would probably go with a 2 cc fill if I come in saying the same things the day of my appt. So we will see. I don't go in for awhile tho :)

If i crave ice cream, i go for sugar free sherbet. :)

I am one week post op and have a lot of restriction still. For example, I made some Soup for lunch and accidentally ate more than 1/2 cup (probably more like 1 cup). Now it is 4 hours later and I still feel like a stuffed turkey.

Ugh! These portions are so hard to get down. I guess the real hard part though is eating slowly. When I'm hungry, my brain says "Get that food in here as quick as you can!" Waiting a minute between bites seems like an eternity. But I guess that's what I'm going to have to do to let my tummy catch up so I don't feel miserable and stretch my pouch. It doesn't seem like liquids would stretch it though...what do you think?

Is anyone else getting restriction even though they have no fill?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
